The expectations on Dolphins rookie guard Jamil Douglas are already sky high. The fourth-round pick out of Arizona State is expected to contend for the starting job at left guard, and he seems excited about his situation.

"I think that's what they drafted me for," Douglas said after Friday's first practice of the team's two-day rookie minicamp.
"They didn't draft me to sit around. So, definitely, I want to live up to that and be the guard they drafted me to be."
The Dolphins selected guards in the third round the previous two years (Dallas Thomas in 2013, Billy Turner in 2014) and both struggled to get on the field as rookies.
So can Douglas, selected a round lower, come in and fare better?

I think the article saying the expectations for him are sky high is quite a misnomer. Who has these sky high expectations for a 4th round piCK..?

He's expected to come in, compete for a starting gig, and hopefully win it. Those are pretty "sky high" expectations for a 4th round pick, and we need him to produce. Hickey seemed to really do a great job in this draft just based on college film and addressing areas of need. I'd say the expectations for this team are pretty sky hi as well but that's another debate for another day.

Douglas is NEEDED to come through is more like it.

yeah, I think it's the low expectation of dallas Thomas, that makes this pick have a higher expectation.

DFT has had opportunities. He is not the guy. Like Davis and Taylor too. The latter 2 need to prove something in preseason. Camp doesn't count for them. We need game play to decide if we keep them or they go.

Gotta love the constant no thanks for speaking the truth. Who has these high expectations for our 4th round pick? Why don't you try to counter my point instead of the constant no thanks just because it's personal. Oh well, that's the idiocy of message boards

No Thanking posters that have anything remotely negative to say is pretty much his MO. Watch this:

Philbin sucks.

As for Douglas, I'm not expecting All-Pro. If we get a decent starter out of him, I'll be happy.

I don't hold out hope for most 4th rounders, but maybe he surprises us and come in and start day 1...

As a prospect he lacks sand in the pants. I'm concerned because of all of our current crop of potential guards, the only two with enough power to play the position well against the Jets and Bills are unproven Billy Turner, and that UDFA kid Liedtke ... and he is a projection at best.

Douglas is decent athletically, but he isn't special. Technique wise he is a bit sloppy. I hope he works out, but don't be surprised or disappointed if he doesn't.

One thing we have proven is that our scouts cannot pick OL gems. We were spot on with high draft picks like Jake Long and Mike Pouncey ... whose talent was obvious to every scout. But our 3rd, 4rh, 5th, 6th, 7th rounders and our UDFA's have all been poor.

We repeatedly need to rely on free agency just to plug he holes from our OL drafting. And this year we missed that boat.

It seems like our braintrust need to change the personnel or the methodology of our OL scouting. Clearly we are below average at it.

I hope Douglas proves to be the exception to the rule ... but IMHO he lacks power just like so many of our failures.

Personally, I was hoping we would pick Mark Glowinski. He is bigger, quicker, and has better technique despite less top level playing time. The Seahawks drafted him 20 spots after we drafted Douglas, and IMHO, he was the better prospect.

Wasnt even negative, there are no high expectations to live up to as a 4th round pick

Alot of us expect Douglas to start over Thomas. Does that count
