His roster is a constant work in progress, but Dolphins coach Tony Sparano says he won't have to stay up late at night worrying about who to play at running back.
The Dolphins' favorite son throughout training camp has been Williams, who rushed for 123 yards on 29 carries in four games and ascended to the top of the depth chart.
Williams, 31, performed so well from off-season workouts in March through training camp that this weekend General Manager Jeff Ireland extended Williams' contract through the 2009 season.
Williams, who was acquired by Miami in 2002 and is the longest-tenured Dolphin despite his checkered past, said he hopes to end his career in Miami.
But not for a while.

"I can sleep a little easier at night," Sparano said Monday about his two-pronged rushing attack of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown. "That's a position that's solved. Now we can move on to some of the other ones."
