Here's Jason's latest on Miami's cap, updated yesterday. Our top 51 is at $128M. To better understand how the rookies work, click rookies to the right of the run down. As per his Phins cap calculator, our cap this year is at $150M due to carry over from last year.

So, we have about $12M left, and teams like to keep $4-5M for injuries and possible trades. That leaves us $7-8M to add a few vets from late cuts, which is good.

Looking at the cap savings column, I don't see big saving there. Moore would save $4M but, don't believe the team will let him go. Gibson saves $1.7M but, if healthy, gotta keep him. The only other one I see is Garner at $1.4M but, with the OL having many questions, he will be staying

*** Correction Notice. I made a mistake here. I took Jason's $137M for all 71 players instead of out top 51 @ $128M + $6M in dead money. We should actually be at around $16M as opposed to $12M. Sorry.

I think Garner staying will depend on if Thomas takes huge stepps and how Turner does. If Turner and Thomas look good to go, not sure they would keep Garner, but ya never know.

Moore is a goner.

No way. They didn't sign or draft a back up, Moore goes no where.

Lets put 5000 vcash on it

Obvious restructures or cuts include Wallace, Wheeler, Ellerbe, Moore, Finnegan, Smith and Trusnick.

Obviously, when looking at the cost and dead cap money, the LB changeover last year was a failure. The signings of Finnegan and Smith stand out like sore thumbs as huge Hickey gambles. These guys have potential to be huge successes or epic busts. How those two do this year will go a long way towards determining Hickey's job security.

Moore has been a very good mentor and reliable backup option, but his cap number probably makes this his last season with the Dolphins.

Trusnick has become too expensive to be primarily a special teams player, and I likely to be replaced by a rookie either this year or next at the latest.

We are in a very good cap situation. This is the year for Wallace to break out. If not, it becomes very tough for him to earn that kind of money from any team in the league. It is unlikely we keep him at that salary beyond this year unless he makes a significant improvement this year.

The numbers look good. The talent level still needs improvement, IMHO.

I was in favor of dumping Moore and moving the savings to next years cap. But it appears that won't be happening.

So 5 million bucks for a guy to hold a clipboard......one of the bigger issues I've had with Hickey.

And don't give me the 'if Tanny goes down.....' speech. If Tanny goes down Matt Moore wouldn't lead us to the Super Bowl. And probably not a playoff spot. Should have went with Devlin as the backup and drafted Mettenberger in the 5th. If Tanny goes down and Devlin bombs....take the early pick next year and run with it.

The only way I see Moore going anywhere is with a trade. We might see something develop with an injured QB in camp somewhere but they sure didn't draft a replacement

This year we're good next year we are gonna have to make some cuts and restructure a few contracts.Way to much $ on are wr's and lb's.

So at this point this includes the rookies, or do we not find the full effect they will have until they are all under contract?

Devlin is no where near ready to compete with Moore for the backup QB role and neither would have Mettenberger. IMO Devlin going to have a tough time beating out Brock Jensen for the #3 QB spot.

Moore is a goner.

I've been saying for a while that getting rid of Moore is a mistake, but that decision was based primarily on keeping 3 QBs (drafting QB3 and Devlin to QB2).

But for the first time today, some thoughts fell together for me that makes me think we might actually cut Moore this year. We have 11 WRs right now. Last year I think we carried 11 DBs or some crazy number. I've been wondering why we are stock piling WRs.

And now I realize we might be cutting Moore IF Devlin can beat him out in Camp. Moreso, we might only carry 2 QBs this year and free up a roster spot for a WR. But I only see it happening if Devlin can beat out Moore. In essence, this might be Devlin's make or break year.

It mostly does based on the team's rookie allocation, and Jason being spot on for years. There are going to be some adjustments depending on who make the final roster but, nothing of impact in a negative way.

Yeah I wouldn't bet my life on it or anything but Moore will have to prove he's $4.5M more valuable than Devlin and whoever else we have on the roster or bring in. Moore didn't do himself any favors coming in off the bench and throwing a terrible pick vs Buffalo either.
