This year's salary cap is confirmed at $143M. I have used numbers from Over The Cap and Sportrac in putting together the cap space I believe we will have for this year and 2016. It is not exact, as there are variables but, will give a VG idea of where we stand in FA spending.

Right now we have around $10M in cap space. Move Ellerbe and Starks, and it's $10M more. Re-do the deals for Pouncey, Clay, and Fields, and another $10M. Trade Wallace, another $5M. Cut him, and it's $2.5?

IMO, we will end up with $30-35M to open FA on March 10.

In 2016, we have $102 committed on only 33 players. Using this year's cap, we now have $40M to start.

Our dead money from Hartline, Gibson, etc stands at $6.6M, which comes back to spend in 2016. Additional dead money from Ellerbe ($4.2), Starks ($1M), Wheeler ($4.2M), and Wallace ($6.6- 9.6) adds around $20M.

Next year's salaries saved would be Ellerbe ($6.5M), and Wallace ($11.5M). Another $18M.

Add in a cap increase of $7-10M next year as well.

OMO, that projects out to $85-90M in available cap space for 2016, as we now stand.

that's a BOATLOAD of money to be used in FA for a Suh or whoever, IF we choose to do so.

If you bring in Suh, why couldn't you jettison Wake and or Mitchell?

Things can be done to bring this guy in. I am not saying I would do it, but the money stuff can get done.

Can Misi and Fields too.

There are bad contracts everywhere.

Keep Wallace. Get Suh and Andre Johnson, and a guard then draft the rest. Is that possible?

It is plenty of money. I would love a combination of releasing Starks and Signing Suh. Suh and Mitchell would be an effective starting combination. Let Odrick get his money elsewhere. When you consider that Wallace-Mathews-Landry-Clay is equivalent to last year's starters. You can focus on a quality starting guard for free agency, enhance talent with second level FA, and draft BPA. that plan makes sense to me.

Mitchell is a $4.5 cap hit this year but, his $4M salary is guaranteed. Very bad move for this year.

Trading wake would give $7%M this year and $11.1M for next year (dead money and salary). Next year, he would save $8.4M with $1.4 dead money. I would love to keep his with VG-great talent at DT but, no idea what we are planning.

i thought we had a lot of money opening for us next two years.... people were saying we had none.

but anyways... question financially here.... lets say we end up signing Suh here. how much do you believe that will be and effect our cap for the rest of FA? would we still be able to target a DT like Knighton, ILB like maybe Harris/Maualuga, and a G like Franklin/Boling/Wiz???? or will it be more of a struggle to do so???

also this is with keeping Wallace, resigning Clay, and possibly Odrick

It's fascinating that we can look at the numbers, we can get rid of that much cap space with only Wallace and Wake helping us be an 8-8 team.

IF we had a GM and HC who were locked in to this team, we can do a hell of a lot in FA but, I have to wonder how much Hickey and Philbin will be allowed to do?

Well we have to work RT17's contract in there someplace also correct?

if you add suh you don't trade wake...if you do that suhs gonna see nothing but double teams...

you add suh WITH wake and you have 2 guys the opposition must account for at all times and plan against and you also open up more opportunities for others off favorable looks

Suh is expected to get a 6 year $100M deal. I'm guessing that he will get $40-50M guaranteed, that we give him little this year, a bunch (like $20M) next year and convert $10-20M into a signing bonus to be pro-rated at $3-4M a year over the last 5 years of the deal, and work his salaries around that.

We would still be able to play in FA. Wallace and Odrick are variables, with Clay staying.

It can be done but, not holding my breath.

If they pull it off, I love the idea of Such....buuuuut...as I felt before Mike Wallace...I feel now. I'd rather have one very good player and two solid starters than one mega contract.
