DOLPHINS NOTE
The Dolphins, who are allowed to bring 30 non-local players to their team headquarters for pre-draft visits, have decided to add another receiver to that group: Maryland’s Stefon Diggs, a potential mid-round pick. The Dolphins also have spent time with him on the Terrapins’ campus.
Diggs, 6-0, caught 62 passes for 792 yards and five touchdowns last season. He missed the last three games of the regular season with a lacerated kidney but returned to catch 10 passes for 138 yards against Stanford in a bowl game.
Here’s what CBSSports.com draft analyst Dane Brugler said about him:
"Balanced athlete with easy acceleration and strong strides to be a home run threat whenever he touches the ball. Sharp breaks and explodes out of his cuts. [Does] his best work on crossers to use his speed, hitting the crease. Creative ballcarrier and looks downfield quickly to make something happen with the ball. Strong cuts to be dangerous in the open field.
"Athletic adjustment ability and ballskills to attack with his hands and not break stride. Special teams impact as a return man with a 25.8 kick return average in college. Consistent production the past three seasons. Dangerous in the open field and as a return man. …Will have to make an impact on special teams to justify his roster spot, similar to Ted Ginn Jr.
“A five-star recruit out of high school, Diggs had offers from just about every program in the country, but decided to stay close to home, choosing Maryland over OhioState, Auburn and Florida. Durability concerns after battling several injuries the past two seasons, including a broken right leg (Oct. 2013) that sidelined him for the final six games of 2013 and a lacerated kidney (Nov. 2014) that ended his junior regular season.”
