<H2 class=entry-title>Parcells and Dolphins May Be Leaving Secondary Exposed!

I want to start this post by saying that I have nothing but respect for the way Bill Parcells builds teams. He has overseen numerous personnel reclamation projects in his career and has achieved an impressive level of success in all of them.
Prior success notwithstanding, I must admit to being perplexed by the way the Dolphins are rebuilding their secondary. At the end of the 2008 season, Miami’s secondary consisted of Will Allen at LCB, Andre Goodman at RCB, Renaldo Hill at FS, Yeremiah Bell at SS and a trio of potential nickel cornerbacks in Jason Allen, Nathan Jones and Joey Thomas

I know, I know....

BP knows better then the rest of us.......

or

We are building our Defensive line to crush the QB.....

And God forbid I don't want to be negative.......

But I also have to admit at feeling a little uncomfortable with our DB acquisitions.

Just felt there were better options out there for us while also considering our wallet. But the season hasn't started yet maybe we are not through....(veteran wise)

Not saying we've blundered but I'll be curious to see how our D backfield turns out.

Only time will tell......

Maybe the front office is doing the prudent thing, that is take the wait and see how the draft shakes out, maybe we add a Darius Butler/Sean Smith Day 1, and come away with a real solid backup CB on the second day. We also need to remember there is some good stopgaps still available if our plan doesnt go accordingly; Samari Rolle, Chris McCallister, Ken Lucas, Mike McKenzie and a few others. There is also the possibility of a real good player who comes available after cuts happen before the season, seems to happen every year. Lets not Panic JUST YET!!

I do not believe that BP and the front office have made mistakes; however, I recognize that we will have problems in the secondary. All of the potential secondary players are good at supporting the run, so our rushing defense should be solid. I can see talented teams moving the ball through the air versus our secondary. BP, Ireland, and Sparano made choices based upon priority. They cannot fix everything, and I am not surprised we took a step back at corner. It will be interesting to see how things work out.

We had so many holes last year. I do not seem to worry about one position with 9 picks plus more afterwards with the knowledge that we will surely get some more picks. Dallas will be desperate for more picks. Have some faith. Every year people make the phins look desperate for some odd reason.

Just look at the Steelers and Giants when they won the superbowl both these teams didnt have outstanding corners they had decent corners but good to great safties and amazing pass rushers. With an amazing pass rush and safties you do not need shutdown corners you can live with a bunch of number 2-3 corners instead of those number 1s. Draft a corner with one our first 3 picks and we will be fine if we have a strong enough pass rush. If we dont thats when we will be screwed.

However, this team is being build on stopping the run and then putting pressure on the QB to get turnovers we will win or lose with our pass rush. Shutdown corners I find are very overated .

Does anybody not think the trifecta knows the current state of our secondary? I'm sure they're concerned and I'm sure they're working on it. This entire team is still a work in progress.

Hey didn't Ireland say something about Joey Thomas being something good?

Ya know in that Q&A thing he did.

Maybe he is the reason for not going after a better CB in the offseason.
Maybe they really do like Thomas and Jason Allen to produce this year?

I am still tying to figure why is everyone stressing about these corners. This team is being built with the front seven applying pressure on the QB. The corners are not that important if the QB can't see his WR. Name one team that Bill had his hand on that had a shut down corner, but I bet you, you can name some top notch LB backers he was involved with.

Rookies? and you're worrying about vetereans? BP and company are doing it the right way by building up the defensive line and pass rush so who is ever is in the secondary can be more aggressive in coverage.

Ty Law was a system cornerback not a shut down..After he left NE he did all of nothing..The defensive systems that Bill Belicheat runs is the same one Parcells run. It makes cornerbacks look better than they really are, that's why NE let their CBs leave via free agency every year. After they leave then look at those CB stats.

exactly... i agree with you 110 %, average corners are all ways much better with a good pass rush and great corners are just regular with out a pass rush... we'll be ok.

LOL

Shut down corners are over rated.....

Ya sure hate to have to worry about a shut down corner. Rather have a crappy one............

Madison and Surtain were such a burden for all those years. lol

Oh and by the way you think our DL is on the level of the Giants and Pitts. Who's the big time dominators, Porter? Roth? Langford? Ferguson? how bout Crowder.....lol
and rookies take time........

Maybe we could throw out quality CB's in the future but I really don't see that dominating DL that wouldn't be even more efficient with some quality DB's back there. JMO

Hopefully were not finished adding a vets.....
