Dolphins make admission on DeVante Parker

A six-pack of Dolphins notes on a Friday:

• DeVante Parker ranks only 63rd in the NFL in receiving yards (406) and has only one touchdown, but the Dolphins are hopeful that Sunday’s five-catch, 103-yard game against the Chargers will lead to a breakthrough.

And for the first time, the Dolphins publicly acknowledged this week what a lot of fans suspect with Parker: He’s the key for this offense taking the next step.

“We think he can be one of the top guys in the league,” offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said Thursday. “We see it every day, a big catch here and a big catch there. A big thing is his health, and keeping him healthy, and keeping him up at full speed, and just the consistency. We need a consistent DeVante Parker, where it’s week-in, and week-out where people fear him. He took over the game in his way last week and gave us a huge lift.

“I think he is really key to us going from solid to good on offense. I think he’s the guy, his big plays. Those are the plays that take you to whatever that next level is, one notch better. And minus those big plays makes it harder.

“I think we all have felt all along that if we get the running game going and then now your play action (is more effective). Jarvis (Landry) is going to make his plays – he makes them every week – and then all of a sudden now, you’ve got the two guys outside that can really run and DeVante jumping up and making a big catch. Now you’ve really got something. You’ve just got to get all the parts functioning at the same time and working at the same time week, after week, after week. Then we’re going to get this franchise … this offense, where we want it to go.”

More candid, tell it like it is answers from the coaches. Nice..

Right now Kenny Stills has been really impressive. Landry is always Landry but if Parker can be consistent every week, we might have a top 5 WR group in the NFL with speed (Stills), size (Parker) and Toughness (Landry)

It'd sure be nice if DeVante started playing up to his talent level consistently. That'd be a huge help to the offense and team.

He's shown his ability to make big plays. We need more of that, and we especially need him to learn to use his size, ups and hands in the end zone. We need a go to option in the red zone.

I we should be throwing the ball up to him 2 or 3 times a game to see if he can come down with it. The jump ball is one of his best traits.

Agreed. Noone's gonna beat him on a jump ball and im pretty sure Gase has been working with Tannehill to aim for back corner of endzone, to help place the jump ball correctly.

Unfortunately, either Tannehill hasn't thrown them perfectly, Gase isn't calling them, or Parker tries to make a more athletic, low diving catch (ala last weeks charger game in the end zone when he was PI'd)

Just hope to hell his hamstring keeps getting better and he keeps building on the way he played in SD. What he showed last week was pretty damn impressive! He is a difference maker when he's right. Fun to watch, I know that

I think we are about to see the alpha we have been waiting for

He caught a quick in cutter vs san diego against zone where most guys get tackled 3 yards short of the sticks he exploded out of the catch and converted

Fired out of a cannon on that deep ball after the catch too

7 games 600 yards from a thousand i think he gets there and another 5 or so tds...1000 and 6 is below his talent level but after his first half it would be a heck of a finish

No one climbs the ladder better than that kid

If he truly takes it to another level 1200 and 8 would be bonkers

But i think o line attrition might have a say in that

Fact is folks we are sitting on 3 potential top 10 at their position talents in dvp, tunsil, and xavien howard

They are that high level...its crazy but weve killed the last 2 drafts when it comes to difference making talent

And jordan phillips has high end talent as well

Mike Tannebaum deserves some credit for that btw.

It makes me sick but it's true.
