It's always smart to have as many players as possible, but somehow I doubt this signing makes any difference in our extremely thin rotation at DT....

PHINZ RULE!!!

I know stats arent everything, especially with DTs... but im just sayin, those stats are pretty weak.

Well according to another thread he was a back up. So those numbers aren't that bad and we don't know how many games he played or his minutes. A body is a body and Saban will see if he fits or not.

Developmental DT that will find the PS this year. But, I do like the fact we are shoring up DT with big young bodies.

Vickerson, Rhodes and (maybe) Wright. That would be a good haul of young talent to begin finding long term solutions at DT.

Nothing like another log for the fire.

Exactly, Saban see's something in the guy. Most of the time it's how the guy is coached. The fact that he went to Valdosta State would lead me to believe he wasn't coached as a NFL player (lack of a better terms).

The important fact that when Saban grabs a guy he is looking at something the guy has that is diffrent. Like Roth's hand size and motor.

Gotta wonder, if he started out at VSU or transferred in?

I did a google. Some trouble for Mr. Rhodes mainly dumb stuff.

Rhodes will be a developmental player along with Vickerson.

There was this DT that played for Berlin also that I was hoping we'd at least look at. His name is Lorn Mavers. The kid is HUGE 6'4"/340-350 (they have him listed as 320...but he's nowhere near that  )

I saw him play a few times and was very impressed with his size and strength. He was just pushing offensive lineman backwards like they were ragdolls. He was a back up also, so he didn't see the field much...but the times I saw him play left me impressed.

Only problem is he's VERY raw. He just turned 20 this month and has been playing football for less than a year. He's a native of the UK and went to school there, so he's just getting used to American football. He's a free agent and not part of any NFL team, but I'm hoping some team takes a gamble on him and signs him to the practice squad to let him learn the game for a few years until he's ready. I think he can be a diamond in the rough...but this is just my opinion of course.
