can you say "eligible reciever" on the goal line!

Now THERE is a jumpball target!

No... not a New York Giant.... this guy is 6'8, 275 pounds. Should have decent speed, since he played TE. This is the tallest player that I remember ever being on a Dolphins Roster. I'm not convinced that he will remain at TE... he will probably get moved to Backup O-Lineman.

At 275, he's 20lbs heavier than Fasano, who played LT in the Wildcat package when Long moved to RT. It could be that they want more size and power on the left end than Fasano can bring in that situation, and his height sure doesn't hurt.

All depends on how polished he is in practice to determine how quickly we see him on the field, and what the plans are for him.

"Fasano, who played LT in the Wildcat package"
-- I thought Justin Smiley was the LT, so Fasano was moved to that side to help out Smiley.

I guess there are different ways of looking at it though. I mean, from your point of view, they just swapped Fasano with Jake Long... making Jake Long the blocking TE. Interesting.

I don't have a copy of the game to check. I'd love to see a screenshot from the player's backs so we could actually read the jersey numbers in that formation. At his weight, he won't be able to help on the OL this year even if someone gets injured. So I'm guessing he plays straight up TE or TE->OT when they want to unbalance the line.

Fasano couldn't have been play LT in the Wildcat formation because then he wouldn't have been an eligible reciever on Ronnie's TD throw.

Talk about a Jumbo package.

Go 3 TE and 1 WR

Fasano, Haynos, Martin and toss in Wilford at WR.

Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield. Damn, I like that inside the 10:)

09/24/08 - TE Joey Haynos was signed off Green Bay's practice squad. A last-ditch sales pitch from Packers coach Mike McCarthy didn’t deter Haynos from taking Miami's offer to join its 53-man roster. The Packers liked what they saw out of the 6-foot-8, 268-pound Haynos, an undrafted rookie from Maryland, in the offseason and then the preseason. “I had a long conversation with Joe before he left,” McCarthy said. “It’s unfortunate. You never want to lose a good, young prospect. I thought he had a very bright future here. But, he made the decision to go to Miami, and I just wished him the best.”

Highly regarded guy from McCarthy. Hopefully he pans out.

yeah a terp!

I know, I know a dolphin/terp fan
its been kind of depressing lately for me hasnt it

he could have been playing tackle, and been eligible.

it's all semantics.....if you consider the guy lined up outside the guard to be playing tackle, then he was an eligible tackle. The criteria is if you are the on the end of the line of scrimmage then you are eligible. Jake Long could be eligible on any play if they don't line up anyone on the line to his outside....he would then have to report eligible because of his jersey number.

All they did was to move Long to the right side as another RT leaving the left side with a TE and a LG and adding more beef to the right side. (which is actually the reason it worked so well because the patriots did not move anymore linemen over to that side..)

that would make it:

TE Fasano LG Smiley C Satele RG Ndukwe RT Carey RT Long

being a TE in this formation is the same as being a TE in any other formation.. Unless somebody outside of you is on the line of scrimmage you are eligible..

exactly. its just an unbalanced line, Fasano wasnt playing LT.
