Alex Marvez of FOX Sports is reporting that the Dolphins are signing veteran TE Ryan Taylor to a contract.

Marvez mentions that Taylor has a “legit chance” of making the Dolphins 53-man roster next year.
Dolphins HC Joe Philbin is familiar with Taylor from their time together in Green Bay.
Taylor, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Packers back in 2011 out of North Carolina. He spent the first three years of his career with the Packers before he was waived in October of last year.
The Ravens later claimed him off of waivers, but he only lasted a few weeks with Baltimore before he was once again released.

It will be interesting to follow the TE position this year. Dion Sims is probably the only lock for the 53 next year. Depending on what happens with Clay and how Lynch looks in training camp, there might not be room for Taylor on the roster.

just my opinion on this signing, i highly doubt it really is making an impact on our actual TE positions... more of special teams addition and possibly a statement in not even going for a TE in draft or FA... maybe more of lets resign Clay.

Taylor is pretty much a special teams guy and that's it. He hasn't done jack in the NFL since he came into the league in 2011.

He's a scrub. He has only caught a grand total of 8 passes in 4 full seasons and is known as a poor blocker. Not much to get excited about as a Tight End.

Specifically, what was his role on Special Teams in Green Bay? Which Dolphin performed the equivalent role, last season?

And we're the 4th different team he has been with in 4 seasons. Never a good sign.

I don't think anybody is getting excited or expecting him to light a fire on offense.

Sounds like he spent his first 3 1/2 season with the Packers and after being released he was unsuccessful with catching on to the Ravens or Browns rosters mid-season. Yes we are his fourth team but if he can bring some winning experience and be an upgrade on special teams, I am all for it. No need to knock the scrub signings at this point all teams are doing the same thing right now.

Got to fill up that 90 man roster so they'll probably be many more players brought in to compete but not necessarily make the team. Hey if he shows something in camp you never know.
