Time to take off the training wheels.

Mike Gesicki and Charles Harris: Let’s see what you’ve got.

The NFL is a cruel, unforgiving sport.

Results trump best intentions.

What a pile of sensationalist crap. Making up arbitrary deadlines for a rookie and second year player to perform. Beasley isn't Omar but he's almost as annoying in a different way.

I remember when he first showed up in 2012 and pronounced that the front office was "swinging for the fences" to get a receiver when our primary receiver was (and continued to be when the season started) Legedu Naanee. This isn't Madden. Even good football players take time to develop. This kind of unrealistic expectation causes unnecessary tension with the fanbase.

do harris's quotes seem "off" to anyone else?

the whole "it's just a game" stuff comes off a little weak to me

gescki sounds like he's still learning how to be a pro nfl tight end. the offense probably aint easy for him first year out and he's being asked to do more as a blocker.

I've said since draft day that we picked the wrong tight end. I truly hope the kid proves me wrong, but so far Goedert has looked much better.

Gesicki will be fine. Not sure about Harris at this point.

I’m starting to feel this way as well. I try to watch him whenever I notice him on the field and just haven’t noticed anything to get excited about. I loved the pick last year and rooting for him. He seems like a great kid especially the stuff he is doing off the field, but he just doesn’t seem like he is developing into anything more than a situational DE who will always be the 4th guy on the depth chart. Between him and Branch it’s pretty underwhelming considering the cash and capital we have invested in them.

Goedert- 8 catches for 77 yards (9,6 yrds per catch) 1 TD
Gesicki - 4 catches for 42 yards (10.5 yrds per catch) 0 TD

So far stats wise Goedert is looking a little better, and though Gesicki has looked better as a blocker, Goedert has been, and probably will always be a better blocker then Gesicki, and both have had around the same amount of snap plays, but unlike Goedert, Gesicki in his 1st two games was being double covered, and was being being held back by Gase receiving wise, because he wanted to get Gesicki more snaps blocking to help fix his blocking and I am sure to not allow much video on Gesicki until the Pats game (Yes, my opinion...Obviously), but thanks to more injury, Gesicki this past week bot far more snaps, and did pretty well.

I agree though Gesicki had a pretty good game in his 3rd game, Goedert had a great game in his 3rd...then again you can say Gesicki had a better game 1 then Goedert.

Like I said Gesicki will probably never be as good as Goedert blocking, but as the season goes along many will notice that as good receiving as Goedert will prove to be, he will probably not be as good a receiver as Gesicki.

In my opinion he will be unleashed against the Pats, and though the receivers will be out there flying around, Gesicki will be targeted more in this game...we will see how much better he will be this coming game.

Has he though? No sarcasm or ill will pointed in your direction. But minus last week when he was heavily involved in the Eagles Passing Game (7 rec for 77 0 TD) his numbers were pedestrian at best. Stat line he had was 1 catch for 4 yards. Now its hard to get a stat line on blocking outside of pancakes, and the guy has executed his assignments well. Genuinely, him being on the field in any capacity helps. Dude can block and has potential to be a primary weapon in their respective passing arsenal. But how much better did he look with wentz using him as a safety blanket as he get reacclimated to playing again? Its easy to look at the production and say Goedert is much better or is it that he's just had more opportunities 3 weeks both TE's respective rookie seasons? To me it just looks like Adam Gase and Dowell Logfains are bringing Gesicki along at a pace that is both comfortable for the team and Gesicki. Very early in the career scope of both players to say we chose the wrong TE. Thoughts?

If you're going to take a development player in the first round it should be one with a high ceiling i.e. extremely talented player that needs refinement. From the looks of his combine stats and his general play, Harris doesn't look like he's lightning in a bottle. It doesn't help that our midround picks at DT from the same draft seem to be making a leap this year. Additionally, 4-3 DE isn't that difficult of a position to learn.

My point wasn't to dispute whether or not either Gesicki or Harris was a correct pick or good value. The point was that for Beasley to pick the fourth game of an NFL career for a TE or the 16th game of a DE as a defining moment is ridiculous.

I fully understand all of your points and they are all valid. I suppose it's the preference in tight end. I always thought that Goedert had the higher floor and ceiling. I have watched the kid play since his sophomore year in college. He. gets great separation for a big man, is a strong blocker, and has solid hands. I simply thought he was the best tight end in the draft.

I have just never been a big fan of the athletic freeky tight ends that are more finesse players. They seem to take a long time to adjust to the NFL. I see Goedert and I see a comparable as Travis Kelce. I hope Gesicki proves me wrong as it is absolutely too early to know. I just have doubts that Gesicki is ready to go off against any team at this point in his career. Where as I could see Goedert being ready right now.

Folks waiting for Gesicki to be "unleashed" may be disappointed. I'm not saying he can't catch or run, and if he's ignored he will certainly pick up yards (e.g. on that slant vs Raiders). But as some kind of unstoppable force - likely not happening this season.

Goedert has a higher floor, but Gesicki has the higher ceiling. I say take the athlete every day of the week- the payoff could be extraordinary.

Gesicki looked good once he got north south with the ball in his hands on that one catch sunday. No hesitation. Looked like a zone drop off in cut but he split them pretty well. Looks like he has soft hands too.

I’d just like to see more flex and less in line pass pro ask.

With smythe there we should see more in 12
