I agree. The cupboard isn't exactly bare for the new regime. The D was dreadful at times last year but injuries played a huge role in that factor.

I sure hope they do well. I was kinda thinking they would just be a bit better than servicable.
I like Wright a lot. We absolutely stole him in the 7th round, just cause of that injury. If he can keep his motor going on every play, he will do very well.
And I think Holliday is starting on the decline of his career, but hopefully he can pull out a couple more good years.

DE we have:

Quentin Moses (2nd year), Rod Wright (3rd year?), Matt Roth (also young), Jason Taylor (3-4 years left), Vonnie Holliday (2-4 years left).

drafting a DE #1 overall seems like a mistake to me. i could wait until the 6th round to draft Kroy Biermann out of Montana State and groom him for a few years. wait til next year and draft George Selvie from South Florida

Not only injuries, but I think, at times, horrible play calling and a confusing hybrid of 3-4, 4-3 schemes.

I am a Rod Wright fan. When our D was pourous and getting no push what so ever their was 1 rookie (he had to sit his entire rookie year with that torn bicep so I say he was a roo last year) almost every play he was in getting push. That was my boy Rod. He did 30+ reps at the combine with that torn bicep and he was a All Conferance maybe American at Texas. It's like I say about having a tarheels on your team (you have to have one to get to the SB) and Vonnie is still a force when healthy. Alot of people are forgetting about him since he was injured most of last year but I expect a great year from him. In referrance to my having a Hell to reach the Bowl line, like the last 22 SB's has had a player from UNC on the roster.

Vonnie Holiday annoyed me last year because of his continuous whining about being played out of position. That was not good for the stability of the defense. Even though he annoyed me, he was correct. Vonnie has been very successful playing a 3 gap role. He does not play the DT position very well. On paper, Holiday and Wright are a solid pair of starting DEs. We shall see.

one thing's for sure, they both should do better at DE than at DT...They both have the size to play DE in the 3-4...this doesn't mean that we won't draft a DE early but at least we have 2 guys that can start right now.

Ozzy rules!!

I beleive with Rods herculean strenght he can play NT. Their are alot of 300 pound NT's and anyone that does 30+ reps at the combine with a torn bicep that kept him mout all year has to be considered a beast.

Holiday should have been traded for a 5th last month.
