Monday Dolphins news, notes and thoughts after a review of Sunday’s tape:

• Among many concerns arising from Baltimore’s 38-6 demolition of Miami: Will other teams now use a similar blueprint to expose obvious Dolphins shortcomings?

Those shortcomings begin with gaping, appalling holes in the middle of the field on defense. Baltimore’s Joe Flacco completed 14 of 15 passes in the middle of the field in the first half, for 172 yards.

The same exact concern I have..

The adjustments, or lack of, were almost comical. Did Vance Joseph fall asleep in the locker room? They did the same thing over and over and we couldn't even try to change up the scheme.

Football is all about adjustments and attacking weakness's in schemes...and readjusting to what teams do to you...not worried.

But lets face it...were not a real contender yet...we need more help.

Yeah, it's because we only have 1 LB who can cover, Kiko. All of the rest of those bozos (Paysinger, Hewitt, etc.) Cannot cover. Since our DB's are so injured we need our LB'S to pick up some of the slack, and fhey cannot.

They probably won't. It takes a lot of balls to throw it every down like Baltimore and the Patriots are willing to do to exploit a weakness. Most coaches don't have the balls of Harbaugh and Belichick. Though Bruce Ariens is of of those exceptions that will so it could be another long day for our defense next week.

Im not really sure why people think VJ gets the blame here. Jenkins, as bad as he has been was out, Kiko not playing effectively. What was he supposed to adjust to with those LB's.

I have to say that is basically true, alot of times coaches just go ahead and do what they do.. but yes cards and NE you can be sure will be aware. We have to draft LB this year. I cant handle another year of saying that.

I think this team screwed up big when they went into the draft got a great tackle and that was it. I still couldn't believe they didn't draft a linebacker two years in a row. They should adopt the Jimmy Johnson approach to drafting players next time. and that is to double down on positions of need. other than that, I like the future of the team. But MAN! they have to fix the offensive line, the LBs and DBs. And more weapons for tanny.

You got to move your corners around. I would have stuck McCain outside and try to put Lippett on Pitta. The fact they allowed themselves to be burned without changing anything is disturbing.

McCain is going to have to become a #4 corner or really improve his game and start because its very clear he is no nickel. He got killed in San Diego too.

How about blitzing the LBs that can't cover? Useless in coverage, so why not?

How many draft picks do you think we get? It takes time to build a team.

QB was getting throws out quick. Short passing game. Really have no Lb on that field yesterday that are good blitzers. I think they tried with Kiko a few times... nothing.

It wasn't just the LBs either. The D-line did nothing all game long. Lets face it. We need a pass rushing DE, two LB's and one more corner. As far as Phillips, he's had ONE tackle in the last two games. How can a guy that freaking big get pushed around so much? Marion Williams is picking up his pay check. I believe he's had no tackles in the last two games. They keep talking about our "great D-line" but they haven't been all that. Very inconsistent all year long.

Ozzy rules!!

If history has taught us anything it's that once this team gets a weakness exposed they've generally done a horrible job getting it corrected. We may very well end up on a 5 game losing streak to end the season...who knows. I'm curious to see if Gase and VJ can do what the previous coaching regimes have not.

We know the defense won't slow down the Cardinals much, if at all, on offense and the Dolphins offense is facing another very strong defense. This will be another very tough game.

There's no surprise here.

It's already been on tape -- just not taken advantage of this badly quite yet. But Miami is so weak on the back end of the D and up the middle. Zero true cover LBs. Kiko is average at best but he makes the rest of the LBs on the team look terrible. It's that bad. Hewitt could cover eventually, someday, imo -- but his problems start between the ears in not being able to recognize or switch up: lost between ears = lost on the field and that fatal step or three late every time in coverage.

Miami has big time problems at LB. CB the problems are so bad that Miami desperately wanted Culliver (and a stream of others) to help. Picking up street people. Same with safety. Castoffs from other teams or unemployed players now manning starting spots. Thomas is a career third stringer with limited skills. Rambo so good that he was filling out applications for flipping burgers or something. Miami is smoke and mirrors on the back end of the D.

Every serious fan already knows this. So what happened Sunday should be no surprise. The surprise is that with that level of poor talent Miami strung together 6 wins. That's impressive.

And on Offense -- similar issues, just not as bad. People puffing our WRs as if they are GREAT. Wow. Simply not the truth. TEs? Nope. And the OL? Paper thin and underperforming... I could write a book but it gets old. The fact is that Miami is dealing with a dearth of talent compared to other teams. Other teams as units -- and other teams as individual talent. Way quicker, more explosive, and way deeper, many teams. It's just impressive how many wins Gase and VJ have coaxed from these rag-tag players across the board.
