In Dolphin Digest (8-18-06), "Optimism abounds on O-line," Saban says, ".... we need to have interchangable parts to some degree - three tackles, three guards, and an extra center."

Assuming the starters are Shelton, James, Hadnot, Anderson, and Carey, who are the other 3? My best guess are McIntosh (tackle), Toledo (guard if healthy), and Berger (center-guard).

My hope is that they keep 9 on the active roster and include Alabi. However, if the Dolphins keep 3 QB, 11 RB/WR, and 3 tight ends that means 26 on offense, 3 special team (Omare, Denny, Jones), and only 24 for the defense.

Is that workable?

I was thinking he'd keep 9. McIntosh would be at OT and maybe OG. Berger at C/G, Alabi at OT, and Pearson at OT with Toledo on injured reserve or practice squad.

I think Toledo on prctice squad would be ideal, but I just don't think he would clear wavers.

How do you put Toledo on practice squad when he'll be a starter before the end of the season? :rolleyes2

It usually breaks down like this...

3 QBs
3 RBs
2 FBs (or 4 RBs and 1 FB)
5 WRs
3 TEs
9 Offensive Linemen
4 DTs (or 10 Offensive Linemen and 3 DTs)
6 DEs
7 LBs
5 CBs
4 Safeties
1 Kicker
1 Punter

My response to the previous thread about Toledo being on the practice squad was assuming he (Toledo) would be odd man out. I have him in my original 8, and if he is good enough to become a starter this year that would be fantastic (unless it was because all the other RGs were so poor).

Why do people suggest keeping Pearson? He's our 3rd string RT right now. He's done absolutely nothing to warrant this other then his draft status.

There is no way in hell that putting Toledo on the practice squad results in anything other then Toledo getting signed to the roster of another team.

So where is Denny in that mix? The 3rd tight end?

6 DE's? I think that is too high. It depends. I think they will want a couple of tweeners (DE/OLB's) but those could well be Bowens and Taylor. Bowens appears to look like he might fit in as an OLB on occasion.

Reducing that could put another WR in the mix or another DB also - often there are 10 DB's on teams. Much of it depends on the versatility of players (e.g., the OLB/DE's or players that can play both S & CB).

I think Saban's comment about 3 interchangable parts at OL, OT and an extra Center are not necessarily saying he'd only keep 8. I think that he wants that level of talent there. He still may have another 1-2 OL's. But, what he is really looking for is an extra OT, OG & C that can step in without any drop off in production.

Personally I think Toledo was drafted too high and showed too much promise before his injury to be on the practice squad. You can bet that if he is placed on the practice squad, he will be picked up almost immediately by some other team.

If Toledo is healthy enough, he's definitely on the active roster. I could see us going w/ 8-- DMac, Toledo, Berger as Back-ups... I think we might keep 1 more though, likely Alabi and go w/ 9. 8 is cutting it a bit thin imo.

Vonnie Holliday is usually counted as a DT.
