Dolphins, considering taking Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the July 13 supplemental draft, will meet with him Monday and attend his workout Thursday.

I heard he is a stud.Is he more of a middle or outside linebacker type. How would he fit in in our defense ?

I don't know too much about him other than he has very good speed and would have been a 1st rounder if he had been eligible for this years draft. Some people had him rated higher than Bobby Carpenter so he must be talented. From what I have read there seem to be some character issues and questions about his conditioning so I don't think we should waste a high draft pick on him. If we can get him for a 5th rounder then I think it might be a good idea to take a chance on him, I just don't want to be without a first day pick in next years draft.

i dont see where in your world u see us getting brooks for a 5th rounder, if he is such a stud and projected first rder u think he will drop to the 5th rd. wow what a dream that would be but other then that a waste of a thread!!

sorry dont mean to sound so cynical just read the thread and put in my thoughts

I would see Brooks playing the Strongside ILB position in the 3-4

I see in that same aticle it's acknowledged that Anderson is a run blocker, but lacks in pass protection, something a lot of bills fans were telling us. He doesn't have quick feet either, that won't bode well if DC's starting, McKinney seems to still have a hold on the position..can't have ppl coming up the middle into DC's face.

It will probably take either a 3 or 4 in the supplemental to land Brooks.

:rolleyes2

I thought my post was clear as a bell, but I guess not. I said IF we could get him in the 5th we should take him, if some other team wants to waste a 1st or 2nd round pick on him, more power to them. I don't think it would be a very good idea based on what I have read. Would you like to spend a 1st on him and have his "issues" become a problem to the point that he becomes a distraction and doesn't live up to his hype? What would you be saying next year when we don't have a first because it was wasted on a guy who had a red flag over his head? The supplemental draft isn't like the one in April, in this draft you shop with extreme caution looking for a bargain.

IMO we would need to use our 2nd to get him...I think the pats will take them in the 2nd.

Very good speed? I heard he weighed over 270 pounds and only runs the 40 in 5.0 seconds.

As of June 7, his weight was 264 -- he has a target weight of 265 for the workout [June 22] -- and ran a 4.52 in the 40-yard dash, according to his agent.

San Francisco is also taking a hard look at Brooks - and they pick in a pool ahead of us. From kffl:

49ers | Team to attend Brooks’ workout and fly him to California

Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports San Francisco 49ers personnel director Scot McCloughan will be on hand when former Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks works out for scouts Thursday, June 22, in Charlottesville, Va. Brooks will be in the NFL Supplemental Draft July 13. Brooks will also fly to the Bay Area June 28 and have a physical with the 49ers the next day.

They were saying the same thing about Manny Wright last year and he drafted in the 5th.

Well if Brooks can get his weight down, get in shape and run in the 4.5's in the 40 then MAYBE I would think of giving up a 3rd or 4th for him.

Talent wise you cannot compare Manny Wright to Ahmad Brooks. Manny may have had first talent but rarely showed it in college whereas Brooks, with the exception of last year, showed time and time again that he can dominate games from any LB position.

Yes Brooks had a few off the field problems and hopefully he has learned from them.
