When the Miami Dolphins made a trade with the Dallas Cowboys for tight end Anthony Fasano before the draft, they also wanted a linebacker, and it wasn't Akin Ayodele.

According to an NFL source, the Dolphins wanted Bobby Carpenter, but the Cowboys weren't willing to part with the 2006 first-round draft pick. So Dallas included Ayodele in the deal.

I'm still happy with Fasano and Akin. Both are solid players. It would have been nice to get Carpenter though.

Fasano and Carpenter was just the Tuna low-balling Jerry

when he "compromised" and took Ayodele, Jerry thought he had won the day

what a tool!!!

I wouldnt lose sleep, but I would flip out if we got Witten. A guy like that changes your offense. Fasano is more of a blocking TE, and just a safety valve as a receiver.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram believes the Cowboys' drafting of sixth round DE/OLB Erik Walden is another sign that LB Bobby Carpenter might not fit the team's defense.

Walden will be converted to outside linebacker, which is Carpenter's current position. The paper also noted that even the Dolphins' offseason roster raid didn't include Carpenter who doesn't fit a 3-4 scheme well.

Here is something to contradict your opinion.

Im not just saying this because we got Akin, but I like him better. He has started and produced consistently in this league. Carpenter has been a special teamer.

I am thrilled with Ayodele and Fasano.

If we came in to that deal looking for Bobby Carpenter and came out of it with Akin Ayodele, for the same price, we robbed Dallas blind. I know they needed to clear cap, and have no further need for Ayodele, but at this point in his career he's a much better player than Carpenter is.

I was actually a very big fan of Carpenter's in college. I'm not quite sure why he hasn't even been able to crack the starting lineup. But, if we had acquired Carpenter I think it would have been with an eye to offloading either Taylor or Porter in the near future. I don't see Carpenter playing anywhere except SOLB, but Porter can play both OLB's quite well.

Akin is a regular guest on the Sirius radio NFL Channel and he is a very easy guy to like. Seems to be very bright yet intense fella' and a good leader. He might be an excellent addition to the Dolphins. We get all the Cowboy games here in Oklahoma and he plays lights out all the time. I was very happy we picked him up as he's well worth what we gave for him and Fasano.

I was wondering if that was their first choice. Interesting. It's very possible that was the case but I won't take it as absolute fact since it is easy for a reporter to speculate that Parcells would have preferred Carpenter.

but isnt akin better than bobby
I dont think bobby has been able to start

yea. carpeneter has been a bust so far... akin has been a starter.. the good thing about the trade was that we got 2 starters! they got one pick.
