In their continual efforts to upgrade the roster, the Dolphins today brought in a handful of candidates to fill a spot at wide receiver.

Two days after the team released Derek Hagan, five wideouts tried out at the team's facility this morning, an NFL source said.

The Dolphins signed offensive lineman Brandon Frye to fill Hagan's roster spot, but coach Tony Sparano said the team would like to add another wide receiver.

"We had a couple of guys in there to try out," he said. "Right now we're just kind of looking. Maybe there's a young guy out there. It's kind of a look-see."

The candidates weren't identified, but none appears to be from a large pool of established free-agent receivers, including Joe Horn, Reche Caldwell, Eddie Kennison and Terry Glenn.

I wonder who the WR's were. Oh well, they're all probably better than Ernest Wilford.

Who might be the next to go if they find someone they like. Heard he dropped a cup of Gatorade at practice.

I wonder if David Kircus was one of them. It seemed as if the Phins liked him, but couldn't fit him on the roster so had to let him go.

hope we pick one of them up! wouldn't mind glenn, horn or kennison even though they are all well past there primes they can still play and must be better then some of the other guys we got floating around, also yeah i wonder if they are thinking about getting kircus back. The only reason i don't think they would get him back is because he is a very similar size and style player to our other recievers

Honestly, it's tough to bring in a receiver mid season and make an impact, I'm surprised they didn't make a move for Hall to help the Secondary through the season(I know, he may be a cancer), but for the last 8 games and go from there....our guys are BAAAAD!

They aren't that bad, they struggled against Fitz and Boldin . . . guess what, almost every team struggles with those 2 guys . . . and they had issues with Andre Johnson . . . who many consider a top 5 WR . . . other than that, they have been adequate, not great . . . but ok. Last week they were magnificent. They shut down what many feel is quite possibly the best young WR/QB combo in the league . . . in there house.

I rather stay away from that cancer and develop Jason Allen and Culver a bit more. Hall is overrated anyways.

Chambers wasn't bad on SD when he got traded mid-season last year.

That's not a good comparison. Chambers was was on an active roster and starting when he was traded.

The guys that we brought have not seen any game action and would have to ramp up to game speed. Moreover, they're not as physically talented as Chambers is at this point in his career.

It's not the same thing.

A WR can't make an impact midseason but a CB can? Please.

The guy above me said that it was tough for WRs to come in and make an impact, I pointed out an exception.

"Dolphins wideout Greg Camarillo said he didn't recognize any of the prospects who worked out. He said he wasn't surprised that the Bill Parcells regime continues to look for upgrades.

"They told us from Day 1 it's about competition," Camarillo said. "That's going to separate the performers form the people who lag behind. As much as you'd like it to stop during the season, it's not going to stop.

"It's just the mentality of this organization. You either roll with punches or you get punched."

I love it. You can see the big difference from this years regime and last years regime. Don't just stay with the status quo.
