DAVIE -- When veteran fullback Fred Beasley signed with the Dolphins last March he boldly stated that he came to South Florida to be a starter just as he had been with the 49ers since 1999.

Beasley didn't take into account the relentless work ethic of a younger version of himself in Darian Barnes, who helped the Dolphins average 119.8 rushing yards in the nine games he blocked for Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams last season.

Suddenly, the 2003 Pro Bowl fullback is taking nothing for granted in this fierce, yet friendly competition with Barnes, whom he has been sharing snaps with in the first two exhibition games.

"I'm adjusting to the game again, and each week I'm getting better with the confidence and getting comfortable with the offense, which Darian has been in the offense a year already," said Beasley, 31, who didn't play the final seven games last season because of a neck injury.

i think once that fred gets used to the offense fully he will step up[ and show his true worth for us, he will bust open some big holes for the runners

Love it, good read thanks TM.

Darian Barnes is the type of football player to keep on the roster. Good problem for Miami to have in choosing between Beasley and BArnes, if they indeed need to pick between the two.

I think barnes can double as a tight end in obvious running situations, with that in mind I think we may keep 2 fb's Darian is 1 fiercce SOB that can splatter some linebackers he his very physical and I really like him
