A six-pack of Dolphins notes on the eve of Dolphins-Jets:

The best way for Miami to approach a game with a quarterback who hasn’t started a game in five years?

Run the ball. And run it a lot.

Consider: The Jets, one of the league leaders in run defense early in the season, have plunged to 17th in that category and are now allowing 4.0 yards per carry. The 49ers blitzed the Jets for 248 yards on 27 carries last week, with Carlos Hyde rumbling to 193 on 17 attempts. Jay Ajayi had 24 carries for 111 yards in the earlier Dolphins-Jets meeting.
So why has the Jets’ run defense fallen off dramatically?

“They've had some injuries; they've played some teams that rush the ball well,” Dolphins offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said. “The funny thing, they were 16th in the league on third down and now they're eighth. They've improved third down. Sometimes it's what people are trying to do to you. Nothing jumps off the tape that, 'Boy, they've changed this. Now they're giving up runs.' It's kind of funny how that thing goes. We couldn't run it at all and all of a sudden we're rushing for 200.”

One of the run formations Miami doesn't use nearly enough, in my opinion, is running out of spread formation. Get those pisky LB out of there I trust Ajayi to break a single tackle.

Speaking of Jets’ vulnerability, I also noticed junc hasn't been posting since our recent success either, which also concludes he's just a troll who only posts to rub salt in the wound when we're not playing well.

Are you surprised? I'm not. His trash was thinly veiled.

Rest assured he'll be around with some passive aggressive gems if things don't go well on Saturday night for us.

You are kidding. That is all we used to run and Ajayi sat down with Gase one day and explained that he runs better from the single back formation. I'm amazed that it is used so often when most QBs run so little. Remember that Tannehill is the 2nd leading rusher on this team. And A Dolphin QB running the ball is about to stop with Matt Moore taking the field.

P.S. It is interesting to me that now we are talking about the vaunted Jets Defense as something for us, the Maimi Dolphins, to run through to win. I like it. Although with Tannehill out, the fact that we are going to rely on running the ball is a "duh".

That good reporting!

Regardless of what the jets have been doing, it's not going to be easy for us to run on them. Our o-line has not run block well the last few weeks. Unless that changes this week it's going to be a long day

Ozzy rules!!

Agree. Plus, the jets will play their safeties at the line all day and run blitz until we give them reason to back off. Hopefully we take some shots downfield early.

He was given a timeout.

You guys are missing the point. Do we ever run the ball successfully against poor running teams? We almost never do. In fact, if anything we routinely put up dismal numbers against the teams who we are supposed to be able to run on. I swear it's like Murphy's law with The Dolphins. Tomorrow you can fully expect the jets to stack 9 in the box and make Ajayi a non factor.

that would be awesome if the jets thought the game was Saturday.
