Not sure I would draw that conclusion. Teams usually have 3 qbs theses days. Two on the 53 man roster and one on the practice squad. You need to be prepared. With Tua out this week, what's your contingency plan if Bridgewater or Thompson twist an ankle in practice or come up with covid and have to miss the Jets game? If you don't bring someone in now you're left with having only one available qb and having to rush somebody in on a day or two notice to play backup qb. If you bring someone in now, you have your 3rd option already in house. Once Tua returns they will get rid of Bridgeater, Thomson or Sinnett. Likely Sinnett.

Agree. Tua’s situation is a complete unknown and could be serious. But this is standard and means nothing.

Also, obviously it would be Sinnett that’s gone once Tua comes back. Nothing personal, but I hope his stay is short lived.

It's definitely hard not to get that vibe from this, especially with the media clamoring for his retirement. Practically speaking, it makes sense to sign another QB to practice squad for practices, though. If Tua isn't in the lineup after the Jets game, then it's time to start worrying. If he misses significant playing time this will be another wasted season and if he is out for the season, we will likely not resign him and will have to begin yet another long stretch of desolation at the QB position.
