DENVER — Despite his success on the field, Brandon Marshall was a giant headache for the Denver Broncos.

He feuded openly with his coach and front office and ultimately forced a trade this spring that landed him in Miami as the Dolphins' new superstar.

While playing for Denver, he made the Pro Bowl twice in four seasons and established himself as one of the NFL's most prolific receivers. He also encountered police more than a dozen times in three states for incidents including domestic violence, false imprisonment and driving under the influence.

The most serious charges were reduced and he never served jail time.

But there was another crime that became a defining moment in his life. In that episode, he was not a suspect but a witness, although he admits that he bears some blame for the tragedy.

It began with a misunderstanding at a nightclub and ended with the shooting death of his friend and Broncos teammate, cornerback Darrent Williams.

More than 3-1/2 years have passed since a gang member antagonized by Marshall gunned down Williams. The shooter thought he was spraying bullets at the limousine in which Marshall was riding, but he got the wrong car.

Although Marshall was unhurt, he paid a price.

"At one point, he said he thinks about it every day," Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey said. "He does blame himself, and that's not right. There's plenty of altercations like this all the time, and people don't get shot."

Dunno if anything can make something like that go away.

That is heavy, but several points. First, saying these punks were trying to kill Marshall rather than Williams hardly makes it Marshall's fault! It's the fault of the thugs that pulled the triggers. Also, I doubt Marshall had Williams there against his will. Marshall has had at least a questionable past or we would have never gotten him. I don't blame him for not being happy about the dumping of Shanahan and Cutler, I wouldn't have liked it either. Let's hope that Marshall has grown up a little and wants to get on with his adult life since his talent is undeniable!

Carrying guilt for a friend's death is something which never goes away. Whether that guilt is justified or not. It's really heavy ****. Some days you can think about the good times you had with them and laugh and cherish those memories. But some days - maybe a few days a year - are bad. Really bad. I've seen firsthand the emotions people go through with something like this. If he has good friends and family, strong relationships around him to help him through the tough days, he'll be okay.

This story has really been rehashed to death....maybe because I live here in Colorado and have had to watch numerous specials and stories about this over and over? But I think Marshall is getting on with his live and so should everyone in the media. They got the perp who did the shooting and Marshall is in a new state with a new team. It sucks what happened to his friend, but it's time to move on.

He deserves to feel like ****.
He was being a tough guy and talkin loud to the wrong guy and because of it a teammate a friend and from all accounts a quiet and good guy was shot and killed.

When I was a young teenager I saw one of my friends get shot, It was the worse thing that has ever happend to me, Marshall is going thru a hard time. I hope he can slowly forget it.
