"• Faithful readers of Snap Judgments have heard this before, but I've always been fairly high on quarterback Josh McCown, who signed with Dolphins on Friday. I never thought Arizona head coach Dennis Green gave McCown a fair shake with the Cardinals, especially given that McCown was almost .500 as a starter for one of the NFL's worst teams.
While we still don't know what Parcells and Co. really think about John Beck, Miami's second-round pick in 2007, or if the Dolphins are eyeing a quarterback in the second or third round again this year, they could do worse than having McCown start in 2008. Shoot, they have done worse. Did you see Trent Green, Cleo Lemon and Beck last year?
Every time I write something positive about McCown's talents, he seems to shortly thereafter be donning a new uniform. He has played for the Cardinals, Lions and Raiders in his six-year career, which is a lot of moving around. But take note that all of those teams have one thing in common: They were pretty awful. I wish I could say that the streak is over now that he's in Miami, but we all know better.
• It just dawned on me that if your last name is Porter and you're a free agent in the NFL, you've got a great shot to have stupid money shoveled your way by a team in Florida. The Dolphins did it with Joey Porter last year, and the Jaguars followed suit with Jerry Porter this year."

Don Banks actually wrote something positive about the Dolphins??? I never thought I would see the day. He usually hates the Fins.

I remember seeing Mccown playing for the Cards a few years back and I wanted us to sign him real bad. Then he spent a year on the bench and as WR with Detroit. When the Raiders picked him up I thought it would be a shot for him to prove himself again, but Daunte and injuries made it impossible. Cant wait to see what he will do in Miami, the guy has all the tools he just needs to tranfer them to field.

i like the signing, either he pushes beck and beck shows he is the starter or he becomes the starter

i think mccown is a little under the radar type of player

Well, this being the offseason after 1-15, we should be a little cautious about "Everyone we sign is a future All-Pro" syndrome.

After all, if these guys were so good, why could we sign them in the first place?

That said, any QB who is willing to play Wr just to get into the game should be given some credit for just raw desire to play NFL Football.

I though McCown was a good looking young Qb in Arizona.

Not really, when you consider he ends his spiel with:
They were pretty awful. I wish I could say that the streak is over now that he's in Miami, but we all know better.

I really hope that Parcells and Ireland turn this team around really quickly just to see him eat his words.

i agree. i've liked the guy since he was in AZ and didn't think he got a good shot in Det or Oak. Plus, those teams were pretty god awful. So, it'll be interesting. I was excited when I heard the news, so, let's see if he can make some noise with Wilford and our cool bust Ginn.

What did he say positive besides that McCown signed with Miami?

I meant that he actually agreed with the McCown signing. Instead of his usual: "this signing is terrible, I hate the Miami Dolphins, Tom Brady gives it to me in the rear, blah, blah, blah, blah."
