On NFL Today they interviewed the author of a new book on Bill Belichick. Anyways he shared a bit from his book.
I didnt grasp all the details of the story, but here's what I got. Apparently Belichick is a hell of a talent at breaking down film. He started out as a kid helping his father break down film. Anyways, when he was younger looking for work in the NFL, he called Don Shula and offered his services as a a guy too break down film. Shula knew and respected Bill's father but he told Belichick that he was exactly what he didn't want. When Belichick asked why, Shula said because his coaches would end up relying on Belichick too much and he wants his coaches to be involved in their own duties reading the film. This was a big lesson for Belichick as he learned that he needed to keep his talents and observations to himself if he wanted to be the guy in control some day.
Crazy stuff. I'm not even sure around what year he said this was, but thought it was a interesting tidbit to share nontheless.
