i just seen on kffl that kevin acee of the san diego tribune reported that edwards is probably going to get cut..he may be a cheaper alternative than lance briggs and adelious thomas..don't get me wrong i hope the dolphins get one of those guys but they both might get franchised..i believe edwards led the chargers in tackles this past season..he's not a bad alternative..

Edwards is 33. We don't need more dinosaurs on defense.

How many more years could Edwards possibly have??

He's not a sexy FA name to be sure, but if he wants to play and is willing to sign a 1 or 2 year deal for a reasonable sum, then I say hell yes, bring him aboard. A good player is a good player, especially one that has excelled in our system.

What is his injury history? If he's durable why not. Seau was falling apart when he got here. We can always draft LB and sign Edwards. He would only help the defense IMO. Just another weapon for Dom to use, who cares how old he is as long as he can play. They will draw up the contract with age in mind I'm sure.

Why do we need two players at the same position ?? ZT is our MLB, period. Edwards is the same size as Zach (maybe an inch taller) and possesses the same skills (which is arguable)....no, we don't need Edwards...

If he's not broken, and doesn't feel like this is his shot at a huge payday, I don't see how he's not an improvement. What are the other options that won't cost an arm and a leg or a draft pick?

Nah, not another Junior.

Say what you want, but Junior gave it all he had when he was in Miami....and looked like his old self at times....

I'll tell you guys one thing, Edwards would be an upgrade to Spragan even at age 33....

If he comes cheap sign him.

Donnie Edwards is a good player no doubt. If we had him this past season he would have been a luxury and may have helped with our pass coverage in the middle the area of responsibility for LBs or a safety (which of course was a main weakness despite being a top 5 defense). However, besides playing ZT's position he is a year older and we need to start thinking youth on our defense now more than ever. A team more desparate for LBs especially a MLB will be next destination.

There is no doubt that Junior gave his all while he was here, there is also no doubt that he was a vocal leader on & off the field. My main concern with Edwards would be contract length & amount. What i meant to say in my post was that i don't want to spend big money on someone who might retire in 1 year. I Agree, if we can get him cheap, then yeah let's get him, i just don't think it would be wise spending a lot on him when we could possibly spend it elsewhere on a player who could be with us for a long time.

Bingo. Draft an OLB round 2 or 3 and start him. No pampering, or slow stepping, giving excuses on allowing the kid to learn the playbook. Put the youngster in and get those fresh legs kicking towards the QB full speed. As you said, it's not going to take much to upgrade over Spragan. So a youngster, one who doesn't even know the playbook, will have more of an impact on this team rushing the QB on every play than a familiar Donnie Spragan.

The last time we drafted a 3rd round LB it worked out pretty well.

I'll agree that a 3rd rounder for a LB isn't bad, but only if we draft QB and OL the first two rounds, barring something phenomenal like Calvin Johnson dropping to 9.
