After a slow start, P Donnie Jones ranks first in the AFC with a 40.8 net average.

After a slow start and some sloppy plays (not all his fault), Donnie Jones is putting together quite the stat sheet. Considering he is often punting over a large portion of the field, he leads the AFC in net average according to the article. But it is not just the AFC, according to the NFL.com stats listings, Jones is first in the NFL in that category.

Another plus is the return average, which is a result of both hangtime and special team abilities, and he ranks 6th in the NFL with 4.8.

Definitely good news, I hope he can keep it up.

At first, I was kind of worried of having him as our Punter because how poorly he played last year with the Seahawks. But now, I am glad that we did pick him up because he is a really good Punter.

Punters stats are misleading, IMO.

One punter punts from the 10 yard line...... he boots it his hardest.

Another punter punts from the 50-45 area........ he's not trying to hit it quite so hard.

Best net average is still impressive. Not from a punter stand point but a punt team standpoint.

not really a stat we are looking to achieve, like being the skinniest fat guy, is that really a good thing?

Turk Who? He also is way better than Mark Royals,,,,but I am not yet ready to forget Reggie Roby.

Oh god Mark Royals gives me nightmares of being up by 11 with 3 mins ago with the playoffs on the line

Would you rather have him shank every punt attempt? I don't know about you, but I'm just happy that we actually have young players that are producing on the field, I don't care what position they're playing, or the circumstances they're playing under.

Special teams can make a hube differance, especialy when you are strugling offensivly. Great pickup by Saban.
