Don't get me wrong Mare is a helluva kicker, a very good kickoff guy, but Saban knows what he is doing, and doesn't think Mare is worth the money he is making. Alot of you guys don't have problems with Zach, JT, and others restructuring their contracts, well that is what they asked Mare to do. Saban wants to have every penny he can for free agency and the Draft, and if he feels a player is making more than he is worth, he is going to try and fix that problem. Alot of you guys think with your heart, and have a tough time letting go of players dear to your heart. Remember when JJ got rid of Stoyanovich? Alot of people thought he was crazy. But he ended up replacing him with Mare. Same thing with Troy Vincent, we ended up getting Madison as his replacement. Put trust into Saban that is all I am saying.

Would not really be a shock if Mare is traded or cut - it was kind of expected - he is earning alot of money for a kicker, money that Saban wil want to spend on other free agents. Who knows, perhaps he will take a pay cut to stay in Miami.

100% incorrect. Mare is being asked to take a pay cut - less money.

JT and Zach have said that they are willing to restructure their contracts....that is not a pay cut. It actually usually results in more guaranteed money.

See the HUGE difference??

I hope so, because I really don't want Vanderjagt...the guy can kick with nothing on the line, but he can't kickoff and he can't kick with pressure. Mare does make alot of money, but now you have to sign a kicker and a guy that kicks off...Mare I don't think is going to take a paycut...I think there are alot of other options to free up money rather than trading away or releasing a top 5 kicker...If we're going to sign a kicker then we should just sign Vinatieri and sign a kickoff specialist, if Donnie Jones can't do it.

I worded it wrong, but I was eluding to the fact that either way Saban felt he was making too much money. I just hope that we do get a good replacement for him. I wouldn't feel confident going in with a rookie, or an unproven guy. How about Vanderjagt?

Does anyone have any idea what kind of money Vanderjagt is making? Did Ryan Longwell sign anywhere since he left GB?

This is total bs, I posted something last night I can't paste but Mare is worth the money, he is #2 all time fg%, kicks awesome and here is what you won't like armchair guys who say he isnt loyal if he wanted to be here he would take a pay cut blah blah blah, The fact is Saban doesn't seem to rate special teams high on the priority list which is a total mistake and we saw it last year with the ls he cut then signed denney who ended up costing us a bunch more because of the sb that the old ls got also that new guy denney screwed up a ls that cost us a game, then he got rid of Turk who was toughest kicker I have ever seen for a kid that shanked a few has a booming leg yet has 0 control over it we had more touchbacks this year then I can remember in any of the last 5 years ! SO tell me how this will benefit us to sign come garbage kicker who will cost us games rather than win them next thing you know welker will eb to expensive for a kr!

Vanderjagt is going to command at least what Mare is making IMO.....and he has his own quesiton marks (not to mention that he's about 4 years older than Mare).

And if we are just trying to save money.....anyone hlaf-way decent is going to cost at least 500k.....so we are going to go from a very good kicker to a big question mark for no more than 900k in cap room?? I just don't know if I think it's worth it.

I agree 100% that he should receive a pay cut. He just is not one of the top guys anymore.

Case in point, in 2005, among kickers with at least 20 attempts...Mare's 83.3% of accuracy ranked 13th.

He only attempted 2 over 50+ which means that Nick must be seeing something in practice that tells him that he just doesn't have the power to kick that far anymore.

Olindo, take the paycut or get out of town.

Let me tell you guys something....

If we sign that head-bobbing torticollis boy from Indy...

we might as well spike the gatorade with Vodka.

No, thank you.....the CFL is more than happy to receive you.

Dude, who cares about ALL TIME. It is about the now and read my previous post on this thread. He is middle of the pack, yet is one of the highest paid kickers. That just doesn't cut it.

Mare can go if he doesnt want to be a Fin. Weve had good kickers before and he wont be the last.

I don't understand how we talk to Vanderjagt who is going to be more likely expensive then Mare and then ask for Mare to take a paycut.

Ryan Longwell's contract details (IMO, Vanderjagt will command a good deal more than Longwell):

Vikings | Contract update: R. Longwell
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 22:14:37 -0800

Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Minnesota Vikings PK Ryan Longwell signed a five-year contract with base salaries of $710,000 (2006), $820,000 (2007), $1.62 million (2008), $1.85 million (2009), and $1.5 million (2010). There is also a $500,000 roster bonus in the final year of the contract.

It doesn't mention a signing bonus.....I would think that would have at least been a moderate one.
