I personally think the Dolphin Fan Base (and the FINHEAVEN posters) is at a point in time many of which are just not old enough to be familiar with.

Unless you were around for the birth of the franchise, never before have we as fans been faced with losing ways, poor performance, and uncommon mistakes.

The fact is, once those ways were corrected, for decades we produced teams, players, and results that always kept us in the hunt, that wet our appetite for success. We have tasted SB victory, and in the decades that followed we remained a contender. This I think is what many of the Fans of the Team today only have a history of....the expectations are out of line for the present situation.

Frankly, last season was a test of our will and faith, and the Saban era (atleast this early part) could still be part of that test.

However, I challenge all Dolphin Fans to step back and appreciate what you're watching.

Many of you may not have had the pleasure to see first hand how Shula changed those early ways, he took over a new young franchise, gave it a mission, a path, a focus, and a passion. Shula set the course for 3+ decades of success.

I think in many ways, Saban is doing the same. I feel blessed if this indeed comes to pass, that as a franchise we will only have to see "less-than-wanted" results for perhaps 2 seasons. You would agree, many franchises still suffer and have never seen the promised land. We are not them!

I see the groundwork in place to view this year as being the first of many future positive steps to return us to glory and a proud proud tradition.

So if possible, let us temper our expectations and weekly "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" or the next weeks "WE SUX" reactions. We need an evenkeel perspective here.

As a fan, I too have passion and expectations, but I wouldnt want to miss out and see with my own eyes the strides that Saban and the Dolphin staff take with this existing talent and how it becomes better and better with youthful additons and veteran direction in the coming years.

Make Haste Slowly!!

Well said, but be aware that there are many (I think well-meaning) fans on this board that just don't get this concept. Most of us do, but some don't - so don't be discouraged when this happens.

Good post!

No kidding. We were 4-12 last year. Now this year we have a new head coach, new offensive corodinator, new offensive line coach and many player personel changes. Now some of our fans expect things to turn around yesterday. It's not going to happen. Takes time to turn things around. Hell so far in these two games I do see improvement and some bad play. With time Saban and Co. will turn us back into a power house. Until then settle down.

I wasn't there when Shula began his quest for excellence but I was there to witness over a decade of dominant Dolphin football. I am looking forward to that again. "Make haste slowly".

Im from the UK and support a football team (soccer) over here. My soccer team have had hardly any success and ive been supporting them for 31yrs but im loyal to them and wudnt support any other team. This same attitude applies to the Fins. I havnt seen Miami get back to the super bowl since the 49ers game when i first started to support the Fins. I guess i have a mindset that says im used to having a losing team that i support so although i am a little shocked at our current predicament i am not downhearted and i am sure we will get back to where we belong. Its all about patience and understanding the position we are now in. Keep the faith.

Great post! And lets not forget it was Dave Wanny that did this to the team. Not Nick Saban. Lets give Nick 3 seasons to see what he can do and then complain about him or the players he chose.

Wow. Wasn't it you a day or 2 ago calling Ronnie Brown a bust after two games? But YOU want to give Nick at LEAST 3 seasons...amazing!

Well, regardless of his view on Ronnie after 2 games......think about this, history shows that Shula took over for the 1970-71 season....3 seasons later...1972-73 he created the standard all other teams are now measured by. He took them to the SB in his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th seasons. Certianly those are lofty goals for a new coach!

What I am saying is, lets watch the team this year and see what improvements and gains are made. From this small sampling, you would have to believe, next years additions will also be significant (Saban is by no means done improving personnel), and come 2007-08 who knows, maybe this franchise will capture magic in a bottle once again to set up the next 3+ decades.
