Patience "grasshopper". We're all frustrated by Sturgis injuries, and he had struggles his rookie year. However, he was a great kicker in college. Our special team coach loved him. He was fantastic last preseason, struggled only when he got hurt. He needs to find a great personal trainer like the ones that work for the Phoenix suns (NBA). They are fantastic at injury prevention. I have been a personal trainer for a long time and sometimes it takes time for young people to understand why they are getting hurt. Don't cut him and then watch him be a great kicker for 15 years once he figures out how to stay healthy. Patience!! Don't panic

I'm hoping he's the guy, too. Sure, he was bad last year. It happens. FG% is very inconsistent from year to year, according to research. Kickoff depth is much more consistent and Sturgis is good at that. Very good.

The good news is Potter seems all right as well, but I don't trust no FA kicker who's bounced around without making a team, ever.

IR him and go with the wizard prodigy for a bit, groin injuries tend to linger a long time.

My fav NBA team! Go Suns!!

I'm not ready to give up on Sturgis yet either, but in the end I have to remember he's a kicker. If they were the same size, and you didn't put a name or number on the jersey, Potter and Sturgis could each kick 100 field goals and I couldn't tell one from the other without guessing.

The problem is he's unlikely to have a good season this year. Groin injuries linger, and pretty important for a kicker. I can understand wanting to keep him, but either he plays this year and basically sucks, or we get someone else to kick.

Just put him on IR until he's healty. Dustin Hopkins, the Bills rookie kicker last year, spent the entire 2013 season on IR with a groin injury.

i want somebody who is consistent, and Sturgis is far from that

Sturgis missed four kicks under 50 yards in 2013: One that was blocked, a 46 yard attempt that hit the uprights and two really bad misses against the Jets and Ravens. That's not good, but I don't think we've seen enough to really say if he's going to be a consistent NFL kicker or not.

Never liked Sturgis. He was amazing early last year, but faded away.

I want a veteran kicker for Week One.

Sturgis is as bad it worse than carpenter was his last couple years here

Nor should we wait to find out. Just sign a kicker who has historically been consistent.
