This Is My House
Well, we're 0-2. There are a couple of teams 0-2 and many teams that are 1-1. The Steelers, Packers, and Pats all lost in upsets. We're only 1 game behind them. I don't understand why people are giving up the season so early. I live in South Florida and there were many kids and people who were saying "Miami sucks...they keep losing... I give up on them." I was born in 1993, so I wasn't alive for the perfect season and the 5 SB's we were in. I was born when Marino was our QB and Dolphans were waiting for his SB win. I remember Johnston coming and everything went downhill from there (1999-2007). This decade has tarnished Miami's franchise because people act like Miami has sucked forever, but people forget we are the most winning team in the regular season. We were such a consistent playoff team that we have had more Monday Night Football games than anyone, so we've been the national spotlight forever.
Anyways, Miami should have won last night, but being fan always has its price. There are days where you want everyone fired and there are days when you think the team is a SB contender. Nobody is perfect (Except for 1972 Dolphins), which is why NOBODY goes 19-0.
There were a lot of positives and a lot of negatives.
Positives:
> O-line looked like that expensive hole making, pass protecting, line we all wanted.
> Rushing game is top 5 in the league. Very good. Over 200+ yards.
> Penny looked limited, but like his normal self. No turnovers until the last play of the game where it didn't matter.
> T.O.P. is the best thing about this team. 45 min on the field.
> Converted on almost every 3rd down.
> Ginn had a great game, besides the 2 dropped TD passes.
> Special teams did not give up field position and they played very well.
Negatives:
> No pass rush on Manning. He had all day to throw. Porter had a sack, but that was pretty much it.
> Secondary got burnt, but that was mostly because of poor tackling. CB's played well. Smith continues to impress me. He is our pro-bowl CB of the future.
> Crowder is average and needs to be upgraded next year. He has a lot of tackles, but that's it.
> Rush D looked solid, but they hardly ran. Played like crap when Ind. ran for a TD.
> A #1 WR will catch that game winning pass. The first drop was not Ginn's fault, but the 2nd catch was inexcusable.
> Horrible 2 min. drill
> White's pick still looks like a big ? mark.
> Our holes are being shown every week and we did not draft any players to fill some of these holes.
> Wilson looked lost. I really question the signing.
So, Miami lost. The D lost them the game, not Penny, and not Ginn. Look for Sparano to teach the D a thing or two about tackling. Look for Miami to run a similar game plan against San Diego. This is how we will defeat high powered offenses like San Diego and New Orleans. The D will learn what they did wrong and come back next week. We MUST win next week. The only way to do this if play solid on all aspects of the game.
Now the Jets are 2-0, the Bills are 1-1, and the Pats are 1-1. The Jets have been great, but they haven't played a good D yet. The Pats have a horrible D and the Texans are going to be in a lot of shootouts this year. The Titans are 0-2 and will play the Jets hard to avoid the dreaded 0-3. Expect Sanchez to look like a rookie. The Bills choked and lost to the struggling Pats and they beat the horrible Buccaneers. Not really a good team, they will be in the cellar next. Miami has San Diego and Buffalo next, but New England has Atlanta Baltimore. They could actually go 1-3 by week 5. We're only behind 2 games for the lead of the AFC EAST. It's going to be a tough schedule, but the season is not over. Someone may actually win the division with 8 or 9 wins.
If we throw Henne in now, he will be thrown into the wolves and his confidence will be torn. If our WR's can't get open, how is he going to make a difference on the offense? Yes his arm will spread the field, but Penny will be our QB all year unless he gets injured. We're only in year 2 of our 4 year rebuilding plan. We still have glaring holes that couldn't be filled all in one offseason. We still need an NT, ILB, #1 WR, and a safety. It will be Ricky's last year next year, while this year is Ronnie's contract year. So, RB will be an issue unless Cobbs or Hillard proves to be a #1 RB. People forget by the success of last year that we are rebuilding. I know it's hard to be patient, but a Super Bowl is coming our way. It's only a matter of time until Miami will be an elite team of the AFC. If the Fins go 8-8 or better with this hard schedule, it will build confidence for our team because we know we can beat the best teams. Every schedule after this one will look easy.
What I'm trying to say is don't give up until we're mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Also, remember that we're still rebuilding and fans should not raise their expectations so high, or you'll just lead yourself to disappointment.
We're all Miami Dolphins fans and we all want them in the SB every year, but we need to be realistic.
GO MIAMI DOLPHINS!!!
