Attention Doom and Gloomers, hate (love) to break it to you, but if you look deeply at the numbers, the Patriots are hardly much better than us. Here's the thing, we have both played the Jets, and looking deeper into the numbers, they are eerily comparable.

Also, week 1 they played against the pathetic Chiefs who lost to the Raiders. I know many of you are tired of the empty optimism, so I dug up some numbers to shut you "we're gonna get hammered" sayers up (though I doubt anything short of laryngitis would accomplish such a feat):

Let's start with Run Defense:
The Phins are 12th in the league in Rush yards allowed per game, but more importantly, are only allowing 3.1 ypc.

The Pats are tied for 15th in the league in Rush yards allowed per game, allowing an average of 4.3 ypc (over an entire yard more)

For the passing game, since our non-Jets opponents were completely opposite in this regard, we will look to the performance specifically against the Jets:

The Pats allowed him 18 for 26 (69.3%) 181 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT, and Sacked him twice.

The Phins allowed 15 for 22 (68.2%) 194 yards, 2 TD and 1 FF, and sacked him three times.

Even further, the total yardage allowed by the Pats was 256, and for the Phins, 293.

Now, if you take away that pathetic lucky TD pass (yes it was only our fault I understand that) which went for 22 yards, not only do we win the game, but the defensive performance as a whole would be virtually identical to that of the Pats.

Being football fans we all know that while the final score is all that matters, it does not always tell the story of the performance. Point is, this notion that the Pats are lightyears better than us right now is unjust. Look, the Cards may have been historically bad, but their offense is for real. If they played the Pats tomorrow, I'd take the Cardinals.

Offensively, we fared better against the Jets. The Pats netted 260 yards, while the Phins tallied 277 yards.

So you see guys, don't hand this game to the Pats just yet. This game should be similar to the Jets game. Let's just hope that those game-defining plays swing our way for once. Besides, I think as the season wears on, we will realize that the Cardinals loss wasn't as bad as it seemed. I expect them to be in the playoffs (barring injury) and with the weapons they have, they can have that kinda game against many other teams in the league.

Hope I made some of your days fellow Phin fans...let's hope for a better showing this week.

Just playing!

I like our chances. We do play these guys close ( well maybe not last year) so it should be fun to watch. We just cant get down early!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind the losing. But like many here over the past few days have beaten the debate to death is that I/we hate it when we beat ourselves.

It's like when a flag is thrown you have this gut feeling that its already against us. I can't count the big plays negated by penalties offensively and defensively over the past few seasons. I certainly didn't expect it this year.

I truly expect a better, more disciplined team from that standpoint this year. Playing error free football, for us would keep us in almost every game we play.

Fish were 1-15 last year. 0-2 this year. And you're pretty close to even with the Pats? You have got to be kidding, (or high. Very very high.)

Tell me about it, every time we get a big play I wait before celebrating...I'm like "no flags? no flags?...YES!" LoL

I know what you mean bud, those plays absolutely demoralize a team, and that was evident on Sunday against AZ

The point is that the Patriots beat the Jets and we didn't. I don't care if we had more yards because we still lost. Plus then this week we got absolutely embarrassed. We may win this game but we sure as hell aren't as good as the patriots.

Ok, I stopped reading after this. Which deeply shows how little you know about football. You want numbers?
Ok, the Patsies went 16-0 last year.
We went 1-15.
So, far this year, we are 0-2 and the Patsies are 2-0.
Dang, you are right. We are a lot a like. They are the best at winning and we are the best at losing.

Randy Moss will have 3 TD by the half.

I am really starting to ignore stats and focus on what I see.

Stats are ALWAYS messed with to make it seem like a team/player is better than what they/he are/is.

"Oh Daunte did this in 2004"
"Chad P is most accurate percentage wise"
"Oh we had the 2nd best pass defense in the NFL last year"

All of this is true, stat wise, but if you look with your eyes, you know the real from the fake. And its laughable to compare the Dolphins with New England . . . I have tried to be positive about this team for too long, but **** the stats, lets start playing better. I could care less if we rank in the 20's in everything, if we give a good effort, don't shoot ourselves in the foot and be competitive . . . we can lose and I will be atleast satisfied that we played a good game and "lost" because maybe we aren't as talented as the other team.

I can deal with losing, but the way we lose has gotta stop.

Well I am in football it's really all about how well you match up against an opponent. If you remember last year we lost by 3 points to the superbowl champions (Giants). Pats are one of the teams that we match up okay with. It will be a competitive game. I'm gonna say that we will win.

We match up well . . . ok, but just one question . .

Who do you have covering Moss? Cause I think we could triple team him and he still would come down with the ball.

Randy Moss and Welker are going to make our DB's look like little girls again.

Pats 20 Dolphins 10 (garbage time TD again with Henne)

The only statistic the nfl cares about is wins and losses.

Why didn't you take in to account what Arizona did to us last week? What do you think Welker & Moss are going to do to us? I hate to say it.... but the Dolphins got exposed in week 2 and every team out there knows it. Go deep early and often.
