It is rumored that we would be giving a HUUUUGE contract to Calvin Pace.

ARE WE GOING TO USE THE WHOLE CAP SPACE THAT FAST?

Well Pace wanted 20 mill guaranteed, i'd imagine he got pretty close.

first off cap is just a number.you can change contracts to change the amount. the bottom line comes to real cash .no one know how much money the team has in actual dough to spend. this comes from the pockets of the owners and most owners do not max the cash input and spend to the cap.

the colts were 230k above cap but moved contracts to sing clark for 6 yrds and the RG for 5 yrs. so in the colts case they had actual cash and hence spend it and now will work the cap numbers to match.

It appears that the Cardinals franchised a different outside linebacker, who they thought was better than this guy. I am concerned about paying Joey Porter money to a guy who has been outperformed by donnie Spragan in 4 out of the last 5 seasons.

We already have too many linebackers... I dispise the idea of paying big bucks for some other team's #3 linebacker.

Pace was a DE his first 4 years. He switched to OLB last year and led all OLB in tackles, added 6.5 sacks and an INT.

Guys get put in wrong systems all the time. Pace is a guy who would fit this 2 gap 3-4 system very well.

We'll know more when the final numbers come in. So far, most of these contracts seem pretty reasonable.

+1

I was upset at first hearing that we signed Starks for 5 years and 21 million, BUT only 7 million is guaranteed. Also people need to be reminded that these players can be cut at any-time.

Here's Smiley's bio from Scouts Inc-
Smiley is well-built, athletic and instinctive. He has good upside. He moves very well over short areas. He has good initial quickness. He pulls and traps effectively. He is quick into the hole and adjusts very well on the move. He is aware, alert and takes solid angles. He shows a solid feel for pass protection. He senses twists and stunts, and he can pass off and recover. He is a technically sound player who rarely gets out of position. He plays with good leverage, quick hands and very good hand placement. But Smiley lacks functional power. He gets overmatched in too many one-on-one matchups against bulky or strong defenders. He sometimes loses his power angles on down blocks. He doesn't play with great balance and winds up on the ground too often.
