I know for insurance purposes as a veteran backup, Tommy Maddox makes sense, but do we really want this guy on the team. I would almost rather wait till after the QB camps and well into training camp before signing a veteran guy. Maddox is washed up, and not only was his play last year uninspiring, but the Steelers soured on what they thought was an exaggeration of what he says was undue harrassment of his family because of his poor play.

Why not see what Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin can bring to the table in the camps and see how each handles the increased snaps in training camp. Both guys should know the offense by now, and at least be familiar with our personnel. Plus, Cleo Lemon is physically closer in talent to Culpepper than Maddox could ever hope to be. Any familiarity Maddox has with our coordinator Mike Mularkey is offset by the fact that we are not running Mularkey's offense.

I agree, no Maddox. McNown shouldn't cost much more and actually had upside/potential. Is Seneca Wallace a FA?? He played w/Seahawks and would fit in well here.

well we have to find somebody, Frerotte is drawing alot of interest from some teams like the Broncos

Maddox is terrible. He should no longer be in the NFL IMO. I'd prefer McNown but if he can't come cheap I'd like to wait it out until someone else becomes available for a reasonable price.

I don't disagree that Maddox would be less than Gus was for us last year, but you can't be serious about Lemon or Berlin as our #2 can you ?? Do you realize that there is a very good chance that DC won't be ready till well after the season starts ?? Maybe even as late as November ??

We'll need a guy that has started in the league before. Our season slipped away from is in the first 8 games this year, we don't want that to happen again ?? Maddox may or may not be able to do it either, but he stands a better chance than Lemon and certainly Berlin...

At any rate, if Maddox is signed, he'll be the #2 going into TC where Lemon and Berlin will have their chances...if they perform well enough, then Maddox can be let go and we'll lose the SB at worst...

Nice post, I couldnt agree with you more.

We really do need a better Option at Back-up..Would be kewl if we could get Gus back with a new deal. He knows the system and did win a few games.

Go Dolphins

Maddox' best perfomances came under Mike Mularkey in Pittsburgh. If Mularkey has confidence in him, don't be surprised if that's the way they go.

Gus come back! We love you still Gus! oh well, i tried. I dont blame him since there are alot of you people on here who badmouthed him no matter what the guy did.

I would much rather have Josh McNown than Maddox
