I believe that for this team, this year, we need to fix the OL in FA. The rookies on the OL are very likely to need a year, and that's not something I want to see for this season. Top 1st round picks have struggled, and don't want to see one guy getting RT killed.

There are a number of good-VG options at OG, and it's realistic to think we can upgrade over Cog, Jerry, and Brenner. Our interior was good in pass blocking but, sucked on the run. I do not see a problem in fixing this IF most of the OG's projected to be FA do hit the market, and they will not break the bank.

LT is going to be a difficult choice for Hickey/Philbin. I do not want to pay a King's ransom for Albert or anyone but, other than Collins, there is little choice. RT can be filled in by a Clabo or, another vet on a one year deal. McKennie IMO is not an option. He was horrible, and anyone thinking differently is just wrong.

I play the draft depending on FA. IF we do what I would like to see, we take an OT in the first or second round, and give him the needed time to develop.

I would add in that there are going to be some cap cuts with vets on the OL, and a vet band-aid for a year is not a bad thing.

There will be a rook somewhere on the line if not two.

Would cost far too much in fa

I expect not 1, but 2 rookies on the line in 2014. 3 vets and 2 rooks.

i would love to see this O-line built through the draft with 2 rookie guards and a rookie right tackle. Pay the tog LT what he wants and protect the blindside. Just because FA's have experience doesn't make them better than rookies. If you get a few good hits in the draft you can be set for years. I dont believe in getting the BPA in the draft unless it follows the needs of the team. Id prefer the phins to reach for a rookie gaurd or tackle then take a TE, WR, CB, or S when there are already solid option on the roster. Reach for Martin or Su'a Filo and solidify the line.

How?

Free agents are expensive, we have to sign our own and bring in more than linemen.

There will always be rookie O linemen that will be stars straight from the off. we just haven't had the right guys coaching

And picked the right guys

You're on the right track. No rookies on the line is a stretch tho, because I think ultimately you draft 1 or 2 in the first 4 rounds and let them compete with some stop gap guys. I've mentioned a thousand times, but I'd get a LT (Collins), a guard and then a RT, either Clabo or an FA. To the people who think it's too expensive, I couldn't disagree more. You just have to work the mid tier. The most you'd have to pay in FA for a guy like Collins is $5.5-6m. A starting guard and RT? Max 8 more. So $14m commitment of the $31m we have in space, which can be opened up by $10m if we cut Patterson and Moore. It's not a stretch financially.

I on't see why we can't have a rookie starting in the oline. I'd like to get an OT in free agency and maybe a guard too to go along with Pouncy but that still leaves 2 spots open. I'd not mind starting a rooking guard or tackle if they earn it.

Ozzy rules!!

Clabo, Jerry, Cog, and Martin cost roughly over $12M last year. Think we can't up that some, and get better in FA?

i think we can improve the o line with FA's but i still think that a rookie will start at one spot at least. Get the O line sorted and all that money we spent last year immediately gets better

I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet but would Mack at Ctr be an option, and move Pouncey to G

NOT saying we don't draft them, just that we don't count on them in their first year. My OL budget is around $15M for this year, and we are losing around #12M from last year. We can put vets at every position on the OL this year, and that would be a VG thing.

I won't disagree with this, but putting Clabo and McKinnie at the tackle spots last year wasn't neccessarily better than having rookie tackles Joe
