If Saban leaves. You could see MARINO step in as a Vice President. Give him the power to hire a GM and Coach.

Dan isn't qualified to be a GM. But he is qualified to hire a GM and be in on the hiring of the coach.

Last time it wasn't the right situation because of the people involved. This time it might be the perfect storm in place and Dan's LAST opportunity to get such a job with Miami.

Saban makes so much money and has so many jobs it would take 2 or 3 people to replace him.

Why would Dan leave 2 PT jobs that easily pay more than $1M, plus the offseason when he can do signings for more cash for a job that takes up all of his time for a lot less cash?
If the Dolphins want to give him a figurehead VP so he can get a ring years from now, so be it.
But Dan will NEVER coach or work in the front office. He tried it 3 years ago, realized how much work it is and woke up and went back to his old jobs.
Who can blame him?

Muellers a pretty good GM though...

And maybe we retain him. Then again maybe not. Problem is this franchsie has everything riding on 1 guy. That is the WRONG way to do business.

Set up a heirchary <sp>.

A President (handles stadium issues, tix prices, go-between to the owner)
A VP (watches over the GM, in on coaching hiring, go-between to the Prez)
A GM (scouting, watches over the head coach, player personal)
Head Coach

We have Saban doing the last 3. With Muller helping him out pretty much though without an official title. If Saban leaves it's like a tornado hit the building and left things in ruins.

WRONG WAY TO DO BUSINESS. Let Nick walk if he wants then build it right from the ground up. May take 4 years until we are "good" again but do it right instead of these band-aide fixes we keep trying

Prestige
Ego
Chase of "the ring"

And he tried it 3 years ago for less than a week then quit. Little older, wiser, smarter now. Different place in his life. Might be his time.

ohh...so ...two weeks this time?

Im not saying its gonna happen. Im just saying hte door would be open for him if he wanted it. And a door like this doesn't open often. Maybe once or twice every 10 years if that. So......

That's all.

I love Dan as a quarterback, but why would that make him a good office guy. We need a proven front office guy not a retired QB to run the team.

He was 44 back in 2004 (b-day is Sept 15, 1960) so now that he's 46, he's that different?
Dan got his HOF ring, and I think he cares more about cash and free time than ego and prestige.
I don't see Elway, Kelly or any other HOF QB getting back in.
They can all live off their names.
Now if you want to make Bryan Cox defensive coordinator, that I would like to see. BC, last I checked was a def. asst. for the Jets.

had dinner with ronnie brown and jason taylor

I'M HERE IN INDY FOR THE GAME AND STAYING AT THE HILTON AND MIAMI DOLPHINS JUST CHECK IN AT 5:15PM:rolleyes2

I said it a few years ago and I'll say it again, I would still love to see Marino Coach our QB's on a part time basis. Mainly through minicamps and training camps.

why, what does he bring?

It always helps Imo to have a guy who has a ton of success offer his two cents when it's needed. Chris Carter and Marino Both agreed it is the least coached position on the team. It's such a complicated position that only players who have been there and actually done it can really offer good coaching.

I don't see why more former QB's don't go back and coach the QB position.
