The Dolphins haven’t been inclined to keep a third quarterback on the 53-man roster to start the season in recent years, but rookie seventh-round pick Brandon Doughty is giving the Dolphins incentive to rethink that.
His accuracy, quick mind and poise have impressed Gase, who has final say on the 53-man roster.
Doughty was 7 for 9 for 66 yards in the preseason opener against the Giants and “I saw a guy that was very comfortable,” Gase said. “I felt good calling plays for him. I didn’t have any concerns. I wasn’t sitting there [saying], ‘I can’t call this, I can’t call this.’ Watching him react to everything I called, it was like there was nothing that was bothering him…. He’s done a great job as far as being that consistent in anticipation [of throws].”
Gase said Doughty’s next step is “controlling everybody,” correcting mistakes and correcting mental errors by others..
The Dolphins could stash Doughty on the practice squad unless they believe another team would claim him and put him on their 53-man roster.
“I have a chip on my shoulder; my talents are a little better than a seventh-round pick,” Doughty said Wednesday. “I’m excited to prove everybody wrong.”

Love this quote. Love players with chips on their shoulders! If Tannehill doesn't ever transition to an elite QB, it would be nice to Doughty come up big too! And as many have wanted to begin with, I'm very ok with competition at QB. If you're starting QB can't handle that, then he shouldn't be a starter to begin with!

He thinks he is better than a 7th rounder.

Thats the right attitude to have.

I liked this pick from the standpoint that I thought Miami should draft a later round QB as a quasi-shot to Tannehill. Now after reading the reports about Doughty in camp and pre-season I'm excited to keep this kid on the roster.

I'd like to see him make the roster with ease and that would quell some concerns about next year.

I would never keep 3 qbs

I don't think there is a huge drop off between him and Moore....at this point I would keep him over Moore if he continues to look good and grow in the preseason. Matt Moore has been a professional, great guy....nothing but respect....but there is no ceiling there and it just feels he is kind of hanging around.

I feel you are slowly jumping off the Tanny bandwagon.

Cut Moore. He has no upside and we aren't on the cusp of contending.

This isn't about Tannehill go back to one of the other many threads please.

As for Doughty I hope he works out I mean best thing any team can hope is you find a gem in the rough.

I honestly hope we do keep him and dump Moore, this isn't a shot at Moore, but he's a comfortable living the last few years without having to provide much. Give the kid with a higher ceiling a chance to develop, hell I would be fine with looking at QB late every year, That doesn't mean draft one every year, but if a player you like happens to fall, you make that pick.

when you love this quote it probably means that you love almost every drafted/undrafted player, because they all have ships on their shoulders.nothing personal, but i can`t hear these quotes anymore

Looks better than Goff so far

Seriously, though, I'd cut Moore before I cut Doughty.

Everyoje knows Moore just isnt good enough, but I would still keep him.. all 3 on the roster.

Yea, I can get that. I'm sure at least 90% have chips on their shoulders over something.
