I know there have been numerous posts about the idea of signing Alex Mack and kicking Pouncey out to Guard. But, what about drafting a guy like Travis Swanson in the 2nd/3rd round or Brian Stork and kicking Pouncey out to Guard? We'd have Zack Martin and Pouncey at Guard, Swanson at center, and we can grab our two tackles in free agency. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but if Lewan doesn't fall to us (which he probably won't given his combine) I don't feel comfortable starting Morgan Moses, Mewhart, etc. at the right tackle position. I feel it's going to be Columbo, Jon Martin, Clabo situation to a lesser extent all over again. Thoughts?

I haven't seen much tape on Weston Richburg, but if he can be had in the third round, I'm all for it if he has skills, and can start right away.

Its easier to start at RT then LT. I would try to buy my LT in FA. Agree we should draft a Center in this draft but I think not to start this year in my opinion. Pouncey will stay at Center.

You might be able to accomplish this through free agency. I understand that Evan Dietrich-Smith of the packers is a free agent and is best suited for the ZBS that we employ. You could pick him up as a FA and you would have a instant starting center and move Pouncey to guard. That give you still need a LT in free agency and then look to the draft for another guard and tackle.

I like your thinking. Dietrich-Smith can also play guard, if they like the idea of keeping Pouncy at Center. And he would be abled to start here without a problem. Getting him and a top free agent LT would give us 3 experienced O-lineman. This would also benefit us in allowing us to do many things in the draft, such as drafting the best player available, or moving back and picking up extra picks in a deep draft.

A recent mock draft I read had the top tackles all gone by 19, Martin included, leaving a mock of Sua Fi'lo to Miami. I understand he might be the best O lineman left at that point, but I'm not terribly interesting in drafting a guard in the first. If you can get a real good center in FA, there's no reason Pouncey can't move. I'd take Alex Mack over any FA guard right now. It's not really up to Pouncey where he plays. In fact he's on thin enough ice right now that he's in no position to dictate anything to the team. If you were going to change his position with the least resistance now is the time.

It plays into my perfect FA period. Sign Mack at center, sign Veldheer at LT, move Pouncey to guard, draft someone like Mewhort, Moses, Bitonio, Turner for RT, use Brenner/Thomas/Yeatman at RG.

Sign an FA OG and draft an OG…and keep Pouncey at C.

If you can draft or sign a stud center for decent money u fudging do it. Because I've always said pouncey natural and best position has always been playing guard. The oline starters and depth has to be the priority this year. We are in a semi rebuild mode once again. Th needs a good oline to give him a chance show if he's a franchise qb or not. We need impact players and I've been saying that for yrs. we lack dominant impact players. I don't care if we don't go to the playoffs for 2 yrs. just build this roster with impact players who can play football so in a couple years we will be a young elite team.

In this draft, we are going to have to take the best OL for a number of rounds, regardless of position...and then move as needed.

This seems like such a no-brainer. Center is not a 'sexy' position so we could probably draft or sign another quality center with a non-1st round pick or a FA salary that doesn't break the bank. Then we're maximizing Pouncey's best attributes.
Pouncey will get his money no matter what if he's an effective player.

Has Pouncey ever played guard? Or are we just speculating that he can make the transition?
