Miami's on the clock... Alex Smith has just been drafted by the 49ers... with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, who would you select?

If I was drafting BPA then I'd select Ronnie, if I was filling a need then I'd select Antrel Rolle...

The only reason I start this thread is because I was thinking this morning that I wanted us to draft Mike Williams, and with the benefit of hindsight the WRs are probably the strongest unit on this team. This is in no way a slight at Ronnie because of the holdout.

Well if we are using hindsight and filling a need...Maybe Aaron Rodgers too. And a 2nd round RB

I'm still going with Ronnie Brown, because Saban's tenure doesn't end in January.

I think Nick made the correct choice. There was no really clear cut QB worthy of the #2 pick. No trade down partners, WR is one of our strongest positions and I don't think any CB was also worthy of the #2 pick. Maybe we could have used a third round pick on a QB of the future. Who really knows right now. We just have to trust in our coach and hope for the best.

I'm not questioining the pick...

I was just wondering that knowing the little that we do now about this team from 3 meaningless preseason games, who would YOU have selected?

I wouldn't take a WR as it doesn't represent good value, I thought the best RB was Benson but Ricky seems to be behaving so with hindsight not sure i'd have taken one, I didn't rate rodgers as a potential franchise qb i'd definately consider Rolle (although i preffered Pacman at the time, he looks so brain dead i'm awful glad we didn't take him) even with daniels emergence i still see the secondary as a weakness and rolle would have been a decent pick. Derrick Johnson maybe? apparently he looks great in camp (faster than surtain and even dante hall!!!) and what a tandem that would have given us for the future along with crowder.

So with Hinsight Miami's 7 rounds

1.2 Antrell Rolle - With Ricky back in the fold RB no is longer a need so Rolle is chosen to strengthen the secondary. If only there was a top QB or LT available

2.46 Khaliff Barnes - Roth is looking like a bit more of a project than first anticipated so i'd probably choose Barnes to strengthen the O-line allowing Carey to play RG and Hadnot to play C

3.70 Channing Crowder - Looks an excellent pick at this stage and a real steal

4.104 Travis Daniels - Another great pick looks like a possible day 1 starter

5.162 Antajj Hawthorne - Having addressed the O-line earlier in the draft Alabi is replaced by Hawthorne who at 1 stage was considered a mid-late first rounder

7.216 Kevin Vickerson - Haven't heard anyone taken later impressing much and Carter seems impressed, who am i to argue?

Taking Hawthorne would then mean probably passing up on Wright in the supp draft

Note: these are not all moves i'd have made at the time (particuarly in round 1) Hindsight is 20-20 but theres my view

great response.. thanks.

maybe Matt Cassel in the 7th.. he's impressed with the Pats.

Maybe Kyle Orton in a later round when he was still available and wouldn't have cost us to much. He has looked sharp in Chicago so far. Or a could Center like I wanted!

Orton was taken just after daniels who to this point has probably been our best pick, but i gave orton and adrian mcpherson some consideration in the 4th

I would of went with a RB at #2, but I would of grabbed Carnell. But, if at all possible at this stage, hindsight wise, I would of tradeddown, with whatever I could of got. Even if it meant a 1st this year, and another next. I would of really tried to get down to about 12th, and grabbed Alex Barron, is who I really wanted. And at that pick.

2nd round, no brainer. Darryl Blackstock.

3rd, Kyle Orton.

4th, Vernand Morency. But, since he was gone, Fason would of sufficed.

5th, Antajj.

6th, I would of taken Shazor, since he never got drafted, but knowing now, then, I would of waited until the 7th. So, 6th round, Bulman, who was a DT, from BC. He never got drafted either, but might get to start out in AZ. But, he got overshadowed by Kiwanaku.
