• The Jaguars' coaching staff now believes rookie OLT Khalif Barnes can start for a long time at that spot. He had a fine outing against Cincinnati, replacing Mike Pearson, who has more knee problems. Team sources say Pearson is unlikely to be active again this year and will be allowed to walk in free agency in March.

Material from Pro Football Weekly.

I really think we should have drafted this guy over Roth. I like Roth, and am sure he will be an alright player. But I think Barnes would have been better. I guess it is all hindsight...but I look forward to new blood in the tackle spots next year. (not being a pessimistic, I like the job Saban is doing)

You just have no idea you were one to praise Roth when we got him but just like in every draft people drafted behind a certain player may perform well

khalif barnes analysis http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/barnes_khalif

matt roth analysis http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/roth_matt

take your pick we needed youth on D and we already were set on the O-line

roth was considered by most a borderline 1st rounder. i looked at him as a sleeper pick. saban has proven so far that he loves depth in his front 7. look at the free agents signed, as well as the crowder pick. right now roth hasn't been that good, but he's still a rookie, so give him time. i'd like to see him blitzing from the linebacking spot. we have NO blitz from our LBs right now

yeah i wanted charlie frye with that pick. it wouldve made the gus frerotte era easier to stomach knowing we had a young kid in the wings but I'm not down on Roth. I think he might turn out to be alright

But that is what the draft is all about.. You do your best to HOPE players you draft are worthy of the opportunity.
Some guys get it, some guys dont.

Roth is an animal on the field, but he better pan out to be worth more than what we lost with Surtain. our secondary is definitely missing him this year

Surtain is not impressing me this year with his chiefs

He needs to learn something other than the bull rush. Hard to do when you are a 23 yr old 270 lb kid going against Orlando Pace or even a 305lb rook like Kalihf Barnes .
