Idle musings:

Round:

1. Dez Bryant.
The stud that we need, whether or not we get a #1 type guy in FA. Size, speed, hands, toughness, aggression, the works. If he's taken before us I still would like to see Benn in rd 2. Maybe Lafell, but I remain confused about him after this season. I still like Demaryious Thomas, but his lack of explosion is still a concern imo.

2. Jonathan Dwyer. Kind of a luxury pick, but Ronnie Brown can't stay healthy and Ricky Williams has one year to go. Too good to pass up if he's there. I'm starting to think about Toby Gerhardt as a possibility here, too. Brandon Spikes might fall to here, and that might be too good to pass up. I'm pretty high on Brandon Graham, and if he falls to here you have to consider him as well.

3. Sean Lee
I'd still much prefer Lee here and Bryant at #12 rather than McClain. I just like this guy and he'll provide instinctual play at the position and a coverage upgrade, which is desperately needed. There is very little instinct and coverage ability at the position now.

4. Mike Williams
Too good to pass up. If he's gone then maybe Jimmy Graham, a gamble on greatness. As is Williams.

6th and 7th rd picks- I like Shay Hodge and John Jerry from Old Miss. Cam Thomas is a possibility, Lamar Houston, too. LeGarrett Blount could be a value pick here. Jerrell Powe is in the back of my mind, but I don't know that he declared. O'Brian Schofield might be worth taking with the last pick and stashing on IR. The Universal Draft guys mentioned a couple of DE/OLB guys that would make sense and be good values here, Jammie Kirlew and Dexter Davis.

So no OLB's, NT or FS but two WR's and a RB.....this isn't the direction I hope we go in. I'm fine with Dez but we then can't ignore the major problems on defense after that. I don't see RB a need now, we can easily replace RB's the year we need to. It's not like other positions that need some time to adjust to the NFL game, you can plug in a RB right away.

I personally think we get a defensive stud with the first i.e McClain, Spikes, Berry, Thomas etc... and hope to land Tate or Lafell in the 2nd if WR is the direction they will go. I think Free Safety (Berry, Thomas) will have the biggest impact on this team out of any position we could draft in the first.

I think that you go for value in the draft and pick and choose more in FA. It's a matter of what you can and cannot control. The Steelers took Rashard Mendenhall in the 1st rd when Willie Parker was ripping it up- value presented itself. I'm basing my ideas on best guess of a combination of value and need. If Dwyer is there in the 2nd that might be too good of a value to pass up. I'd love to fill some holes on defense- my favorire value/talent is Sean Lee. I don't know if there's a Safety or NT who will be available in the 2nd rd who would be a better value than Dwyer- I'd rather go with the talent than force a pick. Of course i'm just guessing on who will be there when we pick, but if Earl Thomas and Dez Bryant are there at #12, I'm picking Bryant.

i like the first pick...don't really like the rest...

if you're gonna take a power back in the 2nd take anthony dixon...

The Steelers also have possibly the best FS in the game, last years DPOY, a veteran NT and CB's that they have drafted and groomed. There LB's are 20 times better than ours . . . they can afford to take that luxury.

Plus do u really think that was a luxury pick for them? They had a UDFA in Willie Parker and a bunch of nobodies . . . fact is they needed a RB.

Fact is, taking a RB and 2 WR's in the first 4 rounds just isn't that smart. Neglect FS, NT and OLB . . . plus u take a second tier ILB. I'm not feeling it.

Hindsight, if we took 3 offensive players . . . give me:

1. CJ Spiller - RB - Clemson
2. Rejus Benn - WR - Illinois
3. Brandon Lang - OLB - Troy
4. Jimmy Graham - TE - Miami

Dixon is good, but imo you gotta go with Dwyer.

Uh, judge yourself on what is smart or not. I'm not so sure that Dwyer wouldn't be a better fit than Spiller base on not only next year but the future. Again, RW is most likely gone after next year and RB might be a FA and is injured a lot. The Steelers passed on OL help to take Mendenhall, you can't just look at their defense. What you see as not "smart" I see as taking the long view, and factoring in free agency. I still like Benn quite a bit.
