Russell claims that at one point recently an NFL team -- he says he does not know which one -- spied on him for a period of several days and possibly longer by assigning someone to follow him.

Did you go anywhere fun while you were being followed, he was asked?
"Every time," Russell joked.
Russell was clearly irked at the spying. He should be. If true -- and knowing how some in the NFL work, I have no doubt that it is -- whatever team employed such a Draconian tactic as to actually follow Russell around town as if he were a member of the Taliban should be fined a bazillion dollars and docked draft picks.

There should be some sort of investigation by commissioner Roger Goodell.

What a crazy world we live in, when teams outright spy on draft picks. Go ahead with the background checks and talk to everyone that ever knew him from his elementary school janitor to his dentist....but don't stalk the man.

I think JaMarcus Russell is a little paranoid. :m359:

Let's say this report is true...

Look at it from the standpoint of one of the teams picking in the top 10. You're about to throw in excess of 50 million dollars at a guy who has work ethic and character concerns. This guy can literally make or break your franchise. There's merchandising involved, TV airtime, you name it - any aspect of the NFL business is going to end up squarely on this guy's shoulders. Do you really think their primary concern is respect for this guy's privacy? It's creepy to us, but we're not the owners and general managers who will make the decision to pay this guy. Even if true, I'll guarantee this isn't the first time this has happened to a future draft pick. Football is very big serious business, and the owners have to protect their investments.

I don't see anything wrong with doing a little investigation of someone you are going to give mega millions in guaranteed money. Probably a smart business move. It makes more sense to me that it was the Raiders trying to justify taking Calvin number one.

It's not illegal. They're only following him in public places/establishments.

-They're not breaking into his home...
-They're not wire-tapping his phones...
-They're not hacking into his computer/accounts...

They're doing nothing more than the paparrazzi does all the time.

Interesting story, but no problems here.....settle down to those with their panties in a bunch...

Or are they??????????:cooldude:

Id honestly be surprised more if teams WERENT hiring private dectectives to follow these kids around than if they did. And its perfectly legal and appropriate.
Like it has been said, your gonna be giving this person millions of dollars, hes gonna be a face of your franchise, a huge part of the marketing etc etc etc.
As long as its all done legally, its all good.
If I was said player Id probably be irritated but understand, and if I was the owner of a team you bet your *** id be looking into my investment.
