Draft Spotlight: WR Jeremy Williams - Tulane

I have previously mentioned that the senior Wide Receiver class wants for better talent. Even the good prospects generally have a lot of warts. Among those that are highly rated but have notable problems, is the do-it-all Jeremy Williams of Tulane. I cut up some tape of Jeremy from three of his games in 2009: LSU, BYU and Tulsa.

Here’s the quick book on Jeremy Williams:

Strengths – Hands, focus, acceleration, feel for routes, planting, willingness, consistency, after catch readiness
Weaknesses – Speed, length, physicality, over the shoulder focus, blocking, after contact

Please note, I have not had the time to annotate this and the Vince Oghobaase video yet (the little squares that tell you where the player is). Jeremy Williams is #20 on the video. He usually lines up in the slot on 3- and 4-WR sets.

Reminds me of a faster D. Bess. I'm sure he'll make a fine slot WR for someone.

As usual, what you need to learn about a guy like this is whether he can get off the press. But, he should be an immediate contributor for a team.

has Williams played RB at any point in his career? he looks comfortable with the ball in his hands

Hasn't played RB that I know of but was used a lot like that just because Tulane wanted to get the ball in his hands more.

yeah, that i noticed by watching the video. lots of short and underneath stuff, screens, end-arounds and reverses.

the way i look at it, he's probably not going to be an outside guy in the NFL. he doesn't get a lot of separation against DBs and he's not a natural blocker IMO. he doesn't quite have the speed to turn the corner on end-arounds either IMO, so he's an underneath guy at the next level. could be a dangerous target in the right offense that gets him favorable match-ups.

i think Jeremy is going to have a long career in the nfl. but as a slot WR and be mediocre. he has good quickness and i like his ability in the route running department, he also has pretty soft hands. but outside of that, like you mentioned CK, he doesnt have that extra gear, he doesnt break tackles, he doesnt give you much else.
