As a one win team a year ago it is probably safe to assume we have a way to go in order to truly compete.
Do you think we should focus on one side of the ball or do you think we should simply go BPA no matter what?

i think with the defensive help that is out there this year that we can grab a player like Long or Gholston 1st, get a good CB or ILB with our 1st 2nd round pick and then maybe even grab a big DT or DE with our 2nd 2nd round pick.

For our 2nd round picks I see a possibility of players like LB Connor (MAYBE), CB Talib, CB Cason, DE Cambell, LB Lofton and I am sure there are many more.

I think with a draft like that up top and then some athletes late that we have a chance to really upgrade the defensive side of the ball. Sure we will still need help with offense but maybe it is me but for some reason I am feeling pretty good about the defensive talent this year.

I think we will draft BPA on the first day and maybe for need the rest of the way. If you try to draft for specific positions in certain rounds, you can end up reaching for players.

That is really the bottom line. In fact, they already know who they are taking at number one. It's just a matter of strategically negotiating with a number of players to get that player to take less.

BPA available really with position of need being a determining factor. If the best player on the board is say a RB, I dont think they take one. I think they look at another player at a position of greater need and see if they have a similar grade.

Agreed. Yet, I think they will be in a position to trade down at that point because I know we are not talking about the first pick where trading down is nearly impossible due to the outrageous pay scale.

I think we will draft both BPA and need to be honest with you. I am of the firm belief that teams manipulate the draft boards to where they are one in the same.

You have to remember that with the talent the Fins have now, there isn't a really big difference between BPA and team need cuz they need practically everything. HB is the only position I feel good about going into the season, and maybe OLB in the short run of a year or two, really everything else could be upgraded. So they should be looking to go BPA with most of the picks, but there are some positions that go above and beyond need. If they don't draft a RT and a LG in the first four or so rounds this team is gonna be in some real trouble. Other than that I say go with BPA

agreed. personally the most likely places to see major activity are the 32nd and 64th picks. 32nd to me is going to be the most likely place to trade down due to the fact there is bound to be a first round talent at that pick. Id look for chicago, baltimore and carolina to put in offers depending on their first round picks. I think they are all going to be looking to grab a QB there.

Very true. Since our second round pick is essentially the last pick of the first round I would look for a team who passed on a need in the first round, (as PerfectTeam said maybe Chicago Bal, and Carolina who may pass on a QB) or who doesn't have a first round pick (Cleveland) to come back up to get someone. Cleveland doesnt have a pick til the mid 120's and although they have upgraded in the offseason, may look to move back into the earlier rounds of the draft. I think this is the pick that we look to move, possibly to a team with multiple second rounders. Atlanta has three seconds and Green Bay has two seconds later. I wouldn't mind taking Green Bays two second rounders (56 and 60) for our 32. It would give us picks 56(GB), 57(MIA) and 60(GB). I like it

Cleveland to me is highly unlikely to move into the 2nd due to the fact they have to give up way to much to get that pick. The 3rd to me is a more likely place for them to try to trade if at all.

Thanks for mentioning Atlanta because I had forgot about them. I think they are a big possibility to move to 32. I dont believe they take matt ryan in the first and they need a QB in a big way.

Green Bay is to low for me to consider that trade. I like having 2nd rounders but those are to low. We would miss out on to much.

I agree. If we could trade the #32 with Baltimore or Atlanta, then I would be estatic. We would only move down a few spots and would be getting extra picks (both of Atlanta's 2nds or Baltimore's 2nd and 3rd possibly). That would allow us to fill some more spots.

Well we wouldnt get both of Atlanta's 2nds if they decided to trade. if you look at the trade chart the most we could expect is a fifth from either team. if we get them into a bidding war then maybe more but i doubt it.

i say draft players at positions that take a few years to develop: WR, C, TE, QB.

i think that makes sense since we wont be competing for a playoff spot this year, grab players that are primed to go when we do.

DE, LB, T, G, DT can step in day one and be competitive so get those positions when we are 1 year or that year away

thats a flawed strategy. rookies dont always make an immediate impact and step in year one regardless of position. you pick players that are the BPA and fill a need.
