Draft trade question.....

I keep hearing how we can't trade cause we won't get the value. While this may be true about the value, I still would think we could trade.
Of course we would want the max possible. Basically trading from #1 to #3 would mean we should get a second and third rounder by the chart. And don't say the chart isn't valid anymore. It's still something people look at.
But if the best we can get is a third rounder to move from #1 to #3 why would we not do it. For one we would save some money. And two we need bodies. So an extra third would definitely help. Since it seems there is no clear cut #1 (Long, Long, Dorsey, McFadden, Ryan etc.), we could get one of them still and also a top pick in the third round. It may not be popular and I'm sure ESPN and everyones mother would have something negative to say, but I would do it. Plus if we were trying to trade again from #3 I bet we would get a lot more offers.

i hope we do trade it would be the Best thing that we did a team isnt a wounder player who you pick #1 overall and hope he turns out to be great u want someone that u arnt going to pay alot of money for and could be great i would like to trade down to the middle of the Draft around 14, 15, or 16

Trading the first pick is going to be hard. I can only remembering happening one other time, between the Chargers and Giants a couple of years ago. Not saying it won't happen, but unlikely in my view. I'm sure it's happened other times but that's the only one I can come up with.

Yes it is hard to trade. But thats because everyone wants a first, second, third, next years first, and the first born child. SO why not say screw it, we'll move down a few picks, save some cash, and get another pick in the third.

Of course you would. But that is exactly my point. Everyone wants more than what we may be able to get. What if the best we can do is just moving down to the #3 or #4 pick and we get a third rounder. What do we really lose. NOTHING. We SAVE money, get a player we like and get another top 65 pick.

We don't have to take full value but I wouldnt take the third round deal. The biggest advantage of the first pick is the ability to have him signed , sealed , and delivered before the draft actually starts. An extra thirtd rounder isnt going to make us a SB team and it doesnt make up the difference in having our first rounder in TC on day one. An extra 2nd rounder would make a big enough difference to me though as that would be the 34th selection.

Yes, the trade chart is something people still look at. But the market decides what the number one overall pick is worth. Right now it's not a good market for Miami, unless someone glows in the dark at the combines or private workouts.

Miami will get offers for it's pick, no question about that. But if they are holding out for what the Giants gave up to the Chargers they'll get stuck with the pick. There will be a lot of bluffing going on over the next few months, that's for sure. But I agree with your point that we should be willing to take a little less if that's what it takes to acquire multiple high picks.

I think Ireland let one out of the bag when he said, "Whether you have the first pick or the 22nd pick..." Now that's a strange example to use, since it happens to belong to Dallas. I know that's where he was employed up until recently, but personally, I wouldn't have said it.
