Given the Dolphins need coming into this draft, I would be really happy if the following pans out. First is a list of Dolphin needs, then my trade scenario(s). Dolfans let me know what you think.

Dolphin needs:

1) QB to groom: Of available QBs, I want Brady. Let's assume he does not get picked by any of the top 4 teams. I think we can move up and draft him at #6.
2) OL help: Need a LT and a C/G in the first day.
3) WR: Need a speedy WR to open up the passing game.
4) CB: Need a shutdown #1 corner.
5) DT: Need a young and big DT that can play NT for us.
6) OLB/DE: Future replacements for JT/Porter. Can be drafted next year.
7) ILB: Future replacement for Zach. Can be drafted next year.

Trade scenario:
1) Trade next year's #2 pick for a mid-late #3 + a #4 this year.
2) Trade Booker for a #3 this year.

Possible drafts:

A)
Round 1) Quinn (our #9 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 1) Staley (if available with our #40 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 2) #60 McCauley/Wade
Round 3) Alleman/Satele
Round 4) Walker (WR UCF)
Round 4) Solail (our future NT from Utah)

BPA in rounds 6 & 7.

B)
Round 1) Quinn (our #9 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 1) Ginn (if available with our #40 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 2) Doug Free
Round 3) Alleman/Satele
Round 4) Scott (CB GT)
Round 4) Solail (our future NT from Utah)

BPA in rounds 6 & 7.

C)
Round 1) Quinn (our #9 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 1) Houston, Ross, or Revis (if available with our #40 + 1 of our 3 #3s)
Round 2) Doug Free
Round 3) Alleman/Satele
Round 4) Walker (WR UCF)
Round 4) Solail (our future NT from Utah)

BPA in rounds 6 & 7.

Which of these scenarios do you prefer A, B or C. Which do you think most plausible? Do you have better scenarios?

None of them. We don't need to trade next year's picks.

Start trading away future picks and you end up in same situation we are just working our way out of now. Trading what we have to work with this year makes sense but lets not start mortgaging our future only to go through future drafts watching other teams take good players we could of had. We can all remember those days.

I don't usually like trading future picks, but in this case it's not for old have been players, but for two picks in this year's draft that could turn into starters for this team. In fact trading a second for a third and a fourth in this year's draft is not out of the realm of possibility, don't see why trading our next year's second for this year's third and fourth would be such a big deal.

It's seem like every single thing you write points into Quinn.
What if we keep our future picks and try to live with the idea that unless Detroit, Cleveland AND Minnesota fix something else with their 1st round picks, Brady won't become a dolphin.
I like another QB as development projects and a solid starter like Carr this season, but his price may be too high, Trend Green seems to be an easier path if he's willing to adjust his salary.

Are we playing madden here. Come on now I don't like to say bad things but what in the world was that.

None of the above, they all have Quinn in them, say no to Quinn.

All of those scenarios have a very slim chance of succeeding. Especially A, which at this point seems impossible (though if it did happen, Dolphins should get an A+ for the draft).

I think people get a bit confused over this type of thing. We wouldn't be losing the pick. We would be using it a year early. It's not mortgaging our future, it's more like relocating an asset. The downside is that you would lose a little flexibility if you wanted to move up next season, but if there's a player you have a firm belief on, it might be worth it. Patrick Surtain was one instance where a move like that paid off handsomely.

Dude, what? How do you plan on getting another first round pick? By trading our #40 and #71? Like the above poster said, lay off the Madden :shakeno:

I feel that the use of future draft picks depend on what next year's draft potential will look like. Or if this is a really good draft class, and we can get better than projected for next year, then I feel it is safe to use the draft picks early.

I like B because I want Ginn Jr.

B is also my favorite. However, I view it as the least likely. By using #40 and #71, that roughly equates to a pick in the 24-26 range. I think it would be fantastic if Ginn was there, but I just don't see it happening. It is much more likely that Staley will be there at that spot.
