How many receivers have made immediate impacts as rookies? What Moss did his rookie year was a freak of nature. History shows that most wide receivers taken early develop in their third year. Do you want a guy who MIGHT break out in 2012?
Look at the Patriots in 2006. Their receiving corps was worse than ours. Reche Caldwell was their leading receiver, and he has worse hands than Ginn!
Then the off season came, and they signed Stallworth, and traded for Welker and Moss. In 2007, they had the best receiving corps in football.

I think we know what we need to do.

I like the idea of spending big on a FA WR and using the draft picks for other positions.

I'd cut every WR but Hartline if it meant clearing up enough cap space for V. Jackson. I don't claim to know the logistics behind a situation like that - just making a hypothetical.

I'd love to get a great ILB or Safety in the draft in the first round.

Agreed... I would much rather take an ILB/Safety and snag a PROVEN WR via trade/FA...

You are gonna pay a high price but getting someone PROVEN is the key... our WR corps is full of projects.

I get what you're saying, and I would absolutely kill to get Jackson, but I don't want to give up on everyone just yet. Bess played his first real bad game of his career yesterday, and Camarillo has been the smartest and most consistent performer on the staff besides the play before the two minute warning. For the remainder of the season, they should start Hartline and Cam and play Bess in the slot.
In the off-season, they should cut their losses with Ginn and spend a bajillion dollars on a stud receiver and solid number two.
Next training camp, Cam, Hartline and Bess can battle it out for the remaining two spots.

while this is true. I dont think they were ment to be projects to a #1 WR. I think they are all fighting for the #2. I would be willing to bet that TS knows that none of them will ever be a #1

Why is everyone giving up on Bess? Henne doesn't look his way like Pennington did. It's not his fault Henne wants to go deep. Hartline is definitely our future No. 2 if he keeps playing like he has been, the kid has skills.

Looking at the Free agents for 2010 I dont see much in the way of someone who jumps off the page at me.Besides Jackson and Marshall I dont really see anyone else.I think those 2 guys will get extensions or franchised

2010 Free Agent Wideouts

What happened to us being interested in Matt Jones? I know he isn't amazing, but at least we know he can catch.

Hakeem Nicks seems to be doing ok

and Michael Crabtree looked great yesterday in his first game

There's nothing wrong with drafting a wideout high, you just have to make sure he has TALENT to make that pick justified.

Ted Ginn's pick wasn't. Crabtree's was.

If we had taken Nicks, we wouldn't have Davis...and would be running with Smith, Jones, and J. Allen at cb...we made the right move.

I'm not saying we should have drafted Nicks instead of Davis, I'm just saying not all rookie WRs have a learning curve and can be playmakers immediately.
