Jordan Willis, edge defender, Kansas State
A deep class of edge rushers adds another strong name to the list as Willis has had a dominant season for Kansas State. He’s beat up on opposing right tackles, rushing off the left side on 96.8 percent of his rushes, but the production is difficult to ignore. Willis uses strong hands and a variety of moves to rank fifth overall as a pass-rusher at 89.5 while posting the top grade against the run at an identical 89.5. Willis didn’t come completely out of nowhere as he had a strong 2015 season, but he’s taken his game to a new level and even in a deep class, Willis will garner more notice.

This is my pick! Two years ago I pegged Jay Ajayi...this is my player 2017

I don't think he makes it to us. I don't care what the mocks say. IMHO the NFL has him rated higher.

Ridiculous how this works. A couple weeks ago we were all asking if 22 was too high for this guy, now I don't think he even gets out of the top 20. Same with the former favorite Reddick.
I think 5 ends go before we pick, and unless we think Harris is a first round guy then we're probably SOL for first round ends.

Cunningham or Davis at LB? Lamp at guard? Melifonwu? Trade down?

My take is that I don't want to trade down unless it nets another 2nd. I'd love to get #33 and #52 from the Browns for example, but if that's not in the cards then I'd go with Lamp if he's there or whoever we like better between Cunningham or Davis.
One of those guys would FINALLY get us the Mike we've been looking for and a speedy 3 down linebacker that can cover and hit. Lamp would really solidify the o line, and while I like Obi a lot as a prospect, I think that pick 54 will be a great spot to pick a rangy, playmaking FS (Budda Baker, Marcus WIlliams, Josh Jones).

So for me, in the first round I'm rooting for one of the top 5 ends if they fall, Cunningham, Davis, Lamp or a trade down.

I really hope that some of the QB's, RB's and WR's shoot up the draft boards, and a few of the teams before us fall in love with them. That may be our only shot at a top tier DE.

This happens EVERY year. Players ranked top 10 at the end of bowl season drop out of 2nd round and players ranked marginal 2nd round go in the top five.

Willis has to be a first rounder based both on his production and amazing performance at the combine. Not sure he makes it to Miami's pick, but you never know.

I do think the three offensive lineman will go quicker than expected and some teams are going to stretch for a quarterback. The Dolphins may end up in a good trade down position for a team wanting to get up for a quarterback. I think that's something to watch as the draft unfolds.

There's no way we're going to get a 2nd round pick by moving down a few spots. I already saw somewhere that moving down to 33 would only net us a 4th round pick

Ozzy rules!!

No, we wouldn't get a second by moving down a few spots but if we went all the way down from 22 to 33 then we could probably get 52 if Cleveland wants to do that.

Generally speaking the last several years o-linemen have been heavily featured in the first rounds. It may not be a great year for QBs, but you're probably right that one or two o-linemen get taken earlier than expected and it might push one of the DEs down to us. Good call.

Can someone provide some in-depth reasons as to why Willis will be successful in the NFL? All I've heard said about him was that he put up great numbers in the combine, but how does that translate to the football field and why would it warrant him going in the first round? Why is he better than guys like Charles Harris, Taco Charlton, or Derek Barnett?

He's arguably not a better prospect than those guys, but he's in the same range and he's an electric pasd rush talent with huge upside and high end college production. He has the size, explosiveness, and ability to be a great 4-3 end in our system... A lot ofnthe same things can be said for the guys you mentioned, but Willis is quicker, more explosive and arguably has the most upside as a pass rusher (although Harris with his first step and spin move might have something to say about that).
I don't know, I do want one of the top ends at 22 (Garrett and Thomas will obviously be gone) but I'd love Reddick, Davis, Lamp or a trade down for another 2nd as well. It wouldn't be the end of the world if we just traded all the way into the 2nd and nabbed 3 defensive players with 3 2nd round picks.
How's Zach Cunningham, Josh Jones, and Carl Lawson sound? Guard round 3.

I'd take Cleveland's 33 and 52 for our 22 in a heartbeat! That's a fantastic trade for us! It also means we still get an elite edge rusher at 33, with less salary (although no 5th year option), plus someone like Sidney Jones thrown in! In a year, that will be considered a steal! Honestly, there will be good front 7 guys available at 33. There will even be good edge rusher available at 33. This year's draft is stacked.
