Exactly right, and that is where the rebuild starts. Now. Go get the QB.

The difference between the Patriots and Dolphins is at the QB, and in the secondary! And that is what they must address NOW.
In this draft there is plenty of talent to improve our shty secondary, in LATER ROUNDS. First the QB, then the secondary. And they can absolutely trade Minkah to get the QB.

And that is why they need to SPEND THE MONEY NOW, and get Bennie Logan DT, Adrian Clayborn, a few pieces to man to help man the defensive front, while they rebuild the secondary. And that is how you get pressure on QB.

And then at the end of the draft, in UDFA, they can get offensive tackles and guards.

That's how it is and not the other way around, where we spend draft capital on defensive and offensive front while the secondary is garbage, and there is no QB.


You know when the Seahawks got good? When they got the QB and the secondary.
And we can get that, in this draft.

I absolutely love the first two picks. You’re going to screw up the tank with this defense if the draft played out like this.

Despite the relentless bashing you are receiving, I understand your point and don’t entirely disagree. I do think you are overly optimistic about turnaround time and how little needs to change to be successful, however.

The problem with any draft discussion now is Ross’ tanking remarks and a bizarre love affair with Tua on this board. Seemingly 90% of posters here believe Miami is going to actively and deliberately lose every game next year and have the first pick in the draft and select their beloved Tua. Since this year’s draft class doesn’t contain Tua, and all the draftnics say it is a weaker class, the notion that Miami might take a QB this year is unpalatable to most on this board.

Ironically, the draft is always a gamble, and the biggest gamble of all is bypassing a QB in the belief you will have the top pick a full draft later. It’s such a big gamble, that no team is doing it. Miami is in the same division with the best team in the NFL every year, the last seven of which have been with a QB that is frequently labeled one of the worst in the NFL, and has come nowhere near the first round pick. Even with Fitzpatrick being a lateral move and an empty cupboard on defense, there are still enough offensive weapons here to win at least 6 games. The odds of landing the number 1 pick are slim. Then there is the possibility of Tua having a severe injury or possibly not coming out at all. These are just a few very practical reasons why Tua is a pipe dream.

If there is a QB available in this draft that the team believes in, you take that QB this year if you can. If you cannot make that happen, draft BPA. It is really that simple.

Zona goes with Murray, SF probably makes their pick, Jets aren’t trading with us so you thoughts are to trade 4- with what ever it takes to get Haskins? Before another team trades up or pick him?

Just want to make sure Im clear on your thoughts- unless their is another franchise QB after that your targeting to trade up for that your thinking of?
 
It's funny how people just say "just go get your QB".......we can't trade up unless a team wants to trade down and then there's the compensation......how much will it cost? People are saying that waiting on Tua is a gamble and not a sure thing and that's true. But trading up for a QB is also a gamble and not a sure thing either plus on top of it it will cost a ton a high picks.

But hey, stop getting mad at each other cause nobody on this board is making any decisions. The FO/HC will make those decisions and all we can do is watch and talk about it.
 
This is one of may realistic draft scenarios that would be great for us. I'd like to particularly point out that this draft has a lot of good to solid OL prospects in the middle rounds--including the two this has us taking in rounds 3 and 4.

For that reason, I think we go DL with picks 1 and 2, where the depth of positional talent that fits our schemes simply isn't there. Get two good multiple scheme DL fits, with at least one of them being able to rush the passer and play DE. Then scoop up a couple of the remaining good OL prospects, and make sure we get a good DB or two in there as well.

It sounds formulaic, but the prospects are available in those tiers (with decent CB prospects s being available in every round), and it plays to the strengths of the draft at every tier while addressing all of our greatest needs and providing the most solid foundation available for the rebuild.
 
I like Ed Oliver and would be happy with him but another move could be to trade down and take Jeffrey Simmons. That kid is a chiseled athlete but he’s coming off injury so presumably he drops some. The question is how far he drops.

Grier essentially signaled the possibility of trying to trade down in the interview at the owners meeting. He said something along the lines that they have 11-12 picks already and who knows how many more are coming.

It's not a gamble to tank and wait for next year. It is a dereliction of duty! The worst offense. It is a fraud. You are not doing your job. You are selling the owner on a pipe dream to milk him out of money for five years and pretend like you have a plan, all the while fkn around. It is a crime.
