To change the topic for a second.

He has the same injury as Chad Pennington. Shoulder injury on his throwing shoulder. I wouldn't touch him with a 10ft pole!

He does not have the same injury. There's a different between a torn labrum and a torn rotator cuff.

We could get him for NOTHING. Guys come back from injuries like this all the time. If he is a FA and close to 100%, he has to be our top FA priority.

That injury is the only thing that gives me pause with Brees. Arm strength seems to be very difficult to re-develop with this type of injury, and any rush back to playing could easily result in a quick re-injury (i.e. Pennington). I also noticed in the report that his agent is pushing for a non-incentive based contract, furthering my concern over his injury. I'm not saying I wouldn't take Bree's, but it would definitely have to be at a very good cost:risk ratio.

Drew Brees has a torn labrum, like House said man totally diff and Pennigton has been injured tiwce in the same spot

I'm not willing to give him a huge long term contract like he wants...but I'm willing to give him a pretty decent one with incentives

I have been going back and forth on this. I think right now I am leaning towards signing him as long as he comes with a deal that protects us financialy if the arm realy turns out to be a problem. Based on what doctors are saying about it combined with the insane work ethic of Brees I dont think it will be a huge problem. Rember this is the guy that broke down everything he ate and worked out like a banshe to add the arm streangth. The guy is one heck of a commited football player which could be a huge factor in his revovery.

As others have said, totally different injury and Chad handled his very poorly by coming back early.

You are not giving anything up for him and in an interview I read he realizes that he will essentially get a one year contract with an option for 5 or so more. This is a guy you want and not Culpepper who wants 10 more mil after 6 horrible games and a disastrous knee injury. So no draft picks and a one year contract for a pro bowler who has very realistic salary demands? What exactly is so unattractive about this?

I have my doubts as to whether Saban will have interest in a short QB with a less than great long ball, I just don't think he fits profile of what hes looking for. This is amplified by the contract he will probably expect.

Definately not the same (Labrum v. Rotator Cuff). In fact, Peter King said
he take him in a New York minute once he's on the market. Said Miami is the #1 destination. Phil Simms had the same injury and he was throwing in 3 months.

I have no background to know if a torn labrum is better or worse then a rotator cuff. I looked up some articles online and it sounds like a torn labrum is worse due to the difficulty doctors have when trying to fix it. Its also harder to detect and i found that at least its the most feared injury to pitchers in baseball. I dont know how that translates to quarterbacking but i wouldnt think it would be much different.

Where do you guys get this massive contract demands from? He has said he expects to realistically have a contract structured as a one year deal. And he said he's not looking to get paid top money, just where he realistically slots in.

We have already passed on this guy once. We had better not make that mistake again. He is a proven winner.

Brees tore his labrum. The labrum is not associated with arm strength like a rotator cuff. I tore my labrum, had it repaired arthoscopically, and was mountain biking within six weeks after the surgery without any pain. Its really not a major injury as far as shoulder injuries go.

If Saban gets the chance, he should sign the guy ASAP!
