Agent Drew Rosenhaus is biased when he says he expects client Matt Roth to open the season as the starting outside linebacker on the strong side, where he lined up a season ago for an 11-win team.

But while Roth recovers from a groin injury, Jason Taylor has played there at a high level, including a pair of sacks and a QB hurry during Saturday’s scrimmage.

Speaking during his weekly segment on Ch. 7 in Miami’s Sports Xtra, Rosenhaus said Taylor’s play is expected. ” I’m not surprised Jason Taylor’s been exceptional,” Rosenhaus said. “That’s who Jason Taylor is.”
But Rosenhaus noted the Dolphins signed him to “a back-up contract to be a situational player.”

Well Im glad Rosenhaus cleared that up. Now we can all stop wondering where JT fits into the scheme and what his role will be. The Phins cant possibly consider moving him to starter because Drew knows best. What a CHUMP. Whether or not JT moves ahead is not down to you Drew or the contract, it will be down to how he performs and right now he is ahead of YOUR boy. But then again so is the towel man until Roth gets his finger out. Instead of massaging your boys nether regions with tripe like this advise him he is training for a spot on the roster right now never mind the starting spot.

lol they signed Jason to a backup contract . . . they haven't extended Roth at all . . . so he probably makes less than Jason. He better hope Mr. Roth gets back to practice early this week or that big contract he was hopin for may not happen.

Nuthin against Matt Roth, I like Roth, I always have . . . but unfortunately he got hurt at a time where a guy like Jason Taylor can easily take his starting spot.

I think that we should get Drew to explain Wilford then. That guy got a lot of money and hasn't even sniffed the field.

Roth is the architect of his demise... The plan always was to have him play the lion's share and use JT more situationally... it is the smart way to fully utilize JT at this point but Roth/Rosenhaus' soap opera derailed it and JT is making the most of the chance.

The fact that Rosenhaus feels he needs to speak up in defense of his client in civvies shows how well JT has been doing... He SHOULD be nervous because JT is surprising alot of people.

Man that third down pass rush with Starks, Merling, JT, JP, Crowder and Wake is gonna be sick.

I love how people get so insulted that an agent is predicting big things for his client.

Relax people, its his job, and he didn't badmouth JT while he did it.

My main concern however is that if Taylor does win the starting role, can he last a whole season playing at the tempo he is at the moment in camp?

At 33/34, I have my doubts as to if he can and couple that with Porter who clearly slowed up at the tail end of last season, I think we need Roth to be the starter come September.

Wow! I never realized that Drew Rosenhaus was a hidden gem that if listened to, would lead us to the Super Bowl! Why haven't we taken his advice before now!? Parcells who? Taylor a situational player? Um, a few sacks has drastically changed the mindset of the coaching staff. Taylor is playing like he's possessed right now. He played great before, add in the factor that he now feels like he has something to prove....not good for opposing qb's!

I have always admired Drew Rosenhaus' objectivity. Yes, Ernest Wilford is an incredible talent who is exceeding all expectations.... Blah, blah, blah..
The reality is that Ernest Wilford was the single biggest blunder by the Trifecta last season.

regardless who wins the starting job both should see plenty of action depending on situation. it is ideal in the 3-4 defense to have depth that can be used depending on whats goin on. last year we really didnt have that. there may be times this year where we see roth porter and taylor on the field at same time. we are in a much better position to utilize the 3-4 defense this year.

God forbid JT outplays his contract. That was a stupid comment by ROsenhaus.

Maybe if Roth actually participates in a practice he could beat JT out. Can't win the starting job standing on the sideline all day.
