Why is everyone so High on Drew Stanton?

I'll give you that he has a good arm and can make all of the throws, HOWEVER he was unbelievably inconsistant at MSU. He wasn't just inconsistant in games he was inconsistant during different drives. I know he could scramble in college However he won't be able to do it in the NFL. Also when i watched games of him he would often skip on the open check-down reciever and throw it 40 yards to a reciever in double coverage.

Because he is the perfect developmental QB... all that can be taught... plus he scored a 35 on the Wonderlic... and he has to be the 3rd best qb only falling to quinn and jamarcus.

The Wonderlic score isn't that big of an indicator of Smarts on the Field (or Success), look at Vince Young last year he score a 6 on it and is still on of the smartest players on the field with respect to football IQ.

I agree with the other poster in that a lot of inconsistency can be fixed with good coaching. I am even more convinced that it can when I look at the coaches he has had during his career at MSU. MSU as a whole team was the definition of inconsistency and I don't think you can pin it all on Stanton.

Today Stanton and Olsen are at the Davie's facility for a private work out for the Phins brass. It seems that they are trying to decide which Qb they will take (if they cannot move up to take Quinn) Kolb or Stanton?

How can you say that. What were his stats? I don't think they were all that good.

stanton is very toolsy, and remember that he has not worked w/ top of the line offensive coaches like quinn w/ weiss and russell w/ fisher. the thought is that he can be coached up, as it's better to be talented and raw than polished and untalented.

i heard rosenhaus on 790 say today that stanton was as highly regarded as quinn before the season....he struggled a bit but the guy has talent

Vince Young does things other Qbs can't do. His escapability changes the dynamics of the position. That's why he is so dangerous. He will be a good qb no doubt. They give qbs the wonderlic for a reason. Someone posted a mock test on this site. If you had a chance to take it you would realize it is insanely simple. If a college student, much less, a student athlete scores a 6 on this test I would certainly think twice. Ofcourse, there are always exceptions.

These numbers dont impress me that much:

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT
2003 2 3 39 66.7 13.00 31 0 0
2004 141 220 1601 64.1 7.28 57 8 6
2005 236 354 3077 66.7 8.69 75 22 12
2006 164 269 1807 61.0 6.72 46 12 10

especially the 12 TD and 10 INT last year

You can make the same excuses people make for Brady Quinn. His supports cast in particular his offensive line didn't give him a whole lot of protection. I like Stanton because he's a good athlete, he's smart, and we don't have to give up any picks to get him. Let him learn the offense for a year or 2.

DO I REALLY HAVE TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON STANTON....AGAIN...for the 10th TIME!!!!!!!!

i went to a lot of msu's games...i also attended notre dame's games....

drew stanton, physically, is a superior player to brady quinn....if the team is looking to develop a qb, there is no better option than drew....

the one complaint i hear all the time about drew is his inconsistent or poor decision-making...but let me give you the scenario involving msu...john l "slappy" smith and offensive coordinator david baldwin destroyed drews chances of going in the first round...

let me start off by giving you a recap of drew's first season with the spartans...rather than redshirting this top recruit (especially since 5 year senior smoker returned), FN SMITH put him on the punt return team....an alamo bowl later, stanton tore up his knee and did not return to action until late september of his sophmore year...without much practice, in the following weeks he took back the starter's job and absolutely dominated the big ten....running...passing...he did it all...on the field against the likes of troy smith, brady quinn, chad henne, he just had another gear....

but msu's poor coaching hurt stanton...it was common for drew to lead the spartans to huge leads against some of the country's best defenses...no situation better describes this than the ohio state game of 2005....he put up (what should have been without a coaching blunder by smith) 30 FIRST HALF points against a defense with first rounders whittner, carpenter and hawk....and by the second half all the spartan staff managed to call were option sweeps by stanton....this was the reason for stanton's poor decision making...they left him out to dry...go pull tape from the 06 notre dame game....watch as the spartans blow a 18 point late 4th quarter lead because baldwin called one option sweep to stanton after another...and at the end of the day, the finger was pointed at stanton for not moving the chains...they gave him nothing...no spartan fan blames stanton...he broke his back for that team....

his o-line turnovered completely last season and its top players were injured...his top rb was lost early in the season....tons of his passes on the numbers were dropped...its easy to see a scouting report and blame drew but that would be wrong to do...the guy is a legit qb...

watch this high light package...see if quinn ever had a gear like this while at ND...see if he ever passed on the run like this....dont get me wrong, quinn will be a good qb, but under the tutelege of cameron, stanton is by far the best choice, especially if he falls to round 2....

and let me add...that no matter how john l smith deserted stanton to take heat for State's losses, not once did drew ever turn his back on the team or the program...his character is unquestioned...he doesnt have a shred of over arrogance...hes a stud and would jump for joy if his name was called in by the dolphins draft table...
